morfishine: <Shams> Thanks for dropping by! Sitton was great, but he apparently has a lower back problem. However, his physical condition would categorize him as a "tweener". In other words, he hasn't failed a physical and he's not on the PUP (Physically unable to perform) list. But there's something nagging about his condition, and the Packers simply waived him.

From a Packer front office point of view, this means two things: (1) They were confident with their line without him, thus (2) the money saved justified the move

Whats somewhat "emptying" or murky, is he hasn't missed a start since 2011 and he's "only" 30-years old. It must be a money decision, since keeping him on the bench provided "intangible value" and real backup value.

I don't think, from what I've read, that it was contract-related.

Sep-04-16  Shams: Ah, that makes sense. Now I know why they couldn't even find a trading partner. $6m is a lot but the guy made something like three of the past four pro bowls.

I assume the Bradford news finds you sleeping calmly. :)

morfishine: <Shams> Well, I feel terribly for Bridgewater; you know he almost lost his lower leg. He's really a good guy, even if he is a Viking trying to beat my Pack :)

The Vikes need real solid play at QB to stay in contention. Bradford can supply that; with their positive run game and emerging aerial attack combined with their elite D, the Vikings are positioned to push into the playoffs like last year (when their kicker Walsh choked at the end vs Seattle).

Sitton will surely be picked up. It is just strange that he's simply waived with zero news on his physical condition, I mean nothing ???

At least he has a Super Bowl ring

Sep-04-16  Shams: And just like that, Sitton is a Bear.

morfishine: <Shams> McCarthy said it was a very hard decision to make. Of course the Bears grabbed him for the same price the Pack was paying, except now 10 mil is guaranteed, 21 mil for 3 years. What more could you want from a Pro Bowl OG who's missed one game in 6 years?

Mistake by the Pack

Sep-06-16  Shams: We shall see. Very gutsy move though...if Rodgers goes down due to poor pass protection the front office will come under a tornado of criticism.

morfishine: <Shams> I'm not worried about Rodgers pass protection. What I don't like is this move materially improved a division rival.

If Sitton were 35, I'd say "Ok", but he's only 30. That bugs me

offramp: What is the meaning of your recent post at chessgames.com forum?

I hope you are not thinking of leaving us!

offramp: Every now and then I think of some of the weird things I have seen on the telly.

One of the oddest was in Spain. You can truly see some far-out programs on TV in foreign countries.

This was a Spanish documentary about the life and works of that famous film director Luis Bu˝uel.

Every now and then they showed excerpts of an interview that the BBC had done some years previously.

Bu˝uel did not speak much English, so in the BBC interview he spoke French. (That was the language all his final films were in.)

The BBC had added English subtitles for Bu˝uel, but you could hear the interviewer's English voice.

The Spanish docu-makers had then dubbed the whole BBC interview into Spanish and intecut it with the rest of their footage.

So it was a SPANISH film director speaking FRENCH, subtitled in ENGLISH and overdubbed in SPANISH.

I think the phrase is <too much information>.

  morfishine: <oframp> Great Story!

Speaking of English comedians, Benny Hill is legendary, but who I really liked was Dave Allen.

A number of years ago I purchased a VHS tape off Ebay (from an English vendor) that featured 2+ hours of Dave Allen highlights. I was thrilled when it arrived and so iced a couple of beers, prepped some snacks, inserted the tape into the player, plopped in the chair then toggled the remote to play

The tape was running but the screen was blank. It ran and ran and ran but nothing...not even a squiggly line

Turns out the VHS tape was standard size, so it fit no problem into my tape player, but Europe formats the actual tape differently than the US, so our machines are unable to play tapes from overseas

A bitter disappointment

offramp: My late father had half a dozen favourite jokes that he told with religious wordperfectness at every family gathering, and all of them were Dave Allen jokes. Everyone knew the jokes but liked to hear dad tell them.

As regards video tape, can you, or anyone, complete this sentence?

thegoodanarchist: Hi <morf>. Are anarchists still permitted in your forum?

Let me know!

Jul-17-17

morfishine: <thegoodanarchist> Absolutely, the only requirement is one must be sane and subscribe to one of the following:

(1) law and freedom without force (anarchy)
(2) law and force without freedom (despotism)
(3) force without freedom and law (barbarism)
(4) force with freedom and law (republic)

All have proven viable while also all fail eventually

That, BTW, is tea. A lot of people think it is coffee, but the colour is wrong for coffee.

offramp: I am a big lover of tea. I use Assam tea, and I use tea bags. I used to use loose tea but it is amazingly messy. The tiny leaves seem to turn up everywhere.

I don't use a pot anymore, either. I use two tea bags in a single cup. One great tip is to count 15 seconds after the kettle has boiled, because 85░ is the best temperature to make tea.

I used to drink 5 or 6 cups a day, but now just one or two. The first mouthful, in the morning, is like a tiny Indian heaven.

morfishine: Ah yes <offramp>, I actually like a strong cup of tea from time to time, but drink coffee more often. To get the best full flavor, I grind whole bean daily. The grinder is noisy, but that's the price the neighbors pay for my aromatic morning cup.

For the richest, most flavorful coffee, on weekends I take it one step further and subject my fresh ground beans to a French Press, which is the simplest contraption imaginable. Hot water is poured directly on top of your ground coffee in a cylindrical glass press, then its allowed to steep for 5 minutes or so. Then a form fitting metal round plate with holes and metal mesh is slowly forced down the cylindrical press until the 'used-up' coffee is pinned beneath the metal plate with the now filtered fresh coffee above separated by the metal plate.

We are ready to pour

This is the ultimate when it comes to coffee. The smoothness is astonishing

offramp: It sounds brilliant. I do have an espresso or double espresso roughly once a week. They are normally superb drinks.
