parmetd: Because both Krush and zatonskih have put up 8.5/9 scores about 6 times each. It is easy for them cause there is only ONE hard game per event: that with their rival. So instead of the odds being 1/million the odds are more like 1/2 that a perfect score happens.

cro777: Enjoy your visit. In the meantime, this is GMVA's most recent opening repertoire with black pieces:

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 <French, Classical>

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 Nf6 <French, Tarrasch, Closed Variation>

1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 c6 <Czech (Pribil) system>

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 d5 or

1.d4 e6 2.c4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 <Queen's Gambit Declined>

1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c5 <Tarrasch Defense>

1.d4 d6 2.e4 Nf6 3.Nc3 c6 <Czech system>

1.d4 d6 2.Nf3 Bg4 <Wade Defense>

1.d4 d6 2.c4 e5 <English Rat>

parmetd: I beat GM Akobian in a simul in the Wade Defense. I drew him when he played the Pribil. I seriously doubt he would use such cruddy systems in a serious game like this one.

cro777: <I seriously doubt he would use such cruddy systems in a serious game like this one.>

Probably he would not. In 2011 he was in position to defend against 1.d4 in four games (it seems that he has changed his repertoire):

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 d5 or 1.d4 e6 2. c4 Nf6 3.Nf3 d5 (three games)

1.d4 e6 2.c4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6

Interestingly, his opponents declined the offer to play the French Defense.

But in 2009-2010 he opted for the Wade Defense in no less than five games, including serious ones against Giri at Corus 2010 and very important games in the match against Tregubov at World Cup 2009.

cro777: VA has just won 47th Annual American Open in Orange County.

1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 Slav instead of QGD (against Remlinger he played a novelty in the Slav Exchange)

1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 Nbd7 4.Nf3 e5 Philidor instead of Pribil (against Khachiyan).

He won both of these games.

parmetd: Well you guys took my comment a little too strictly. The event as in the whole Festival's set of events. Such a list would include anything by/about Nunn, Kasparov, Korchnoi and so forth.

Also a nice one of Kramnik's daughter (and one of his daughter and wife).

And the book Aronian bought was Korchnoi's my life and games to have it signed!

Dec-11-11  Penguincw: < parmetd: Um Howell is 2/8 not 2/7. He is done. -4. >

Whoops. My bad. It's the bye that can be confusing. Plus, they don't even show the scores (like 13/7).

parmetd: Yea I understand... it is confusing but I love the idea of the bye to even colors and have these top players as commentators. It gives the players a better feel for their personality as well.

This LCC event is wonderful and while I could spend days typing up my memories and the conversations I've had... I am much too tired for that... so all I will share for now is some of my photos: http://londonchessclassic.shutterfl...

Cheers!

cro777: <chessgames.com: There is a better way to preserve the privacy of a preparation group. What if we made it so that designated forums are inaccessible to GMVA even during the "off months"?>

<hms123: That would work well. We could use the User: analysis forum as the main home for the discussion. It was set up specifically for use in the World games.>

I consider this to be a good idea, <parmetd>. If you agree, I might repost the material concerning the rematch (slightly edited) from your into <analysis forum>.
