Oct-16-12 R Wojtaszek vs D Raznikov, 2012
| |
sackman: what's with 7...Ra7? - this could be inspired, if you are Petrosian, but here the manouvre Ra8 - a7 - a8 - c8 - c1 in the first 14 moves leaves black with a much worse position (possibly lost) which white exploits nicely

sackman: <marcwordsmith> thank you!

| | Sep-30-12 Miles vs Sosonko, 1984
| |
sackman: In his notes on this game Miles gives 23 ....Be2 a ? (agreeing with OhioChessFan) and prefers ...Rxf1; he also comments that 27 ....Bf5 is forced (though white still has an advantage) rather than 27..Nh6?

| | Sep-30-12 Miles vs Smyslov, 1984
| |
sackman: In his annotations Miles puts a question mark at 41 Rc2 and annotates 41 c4; 42 Rc7 Rc1; 43 Rc4 =. He also annotates 47 ...Rc3?? and points out 47 ... h3 = as recommended by waddayaplay

| | Sep-07-12 B Michiels vs L Vajda, 2012
| |
sackman: Very nice game by black - it is hard to pinpoint exactly where white went wrong, black just kept increasing the pressure. 37... Rf4! and 38 .... h4 forces white to expose his king (40 Bf1) after which black finishes very nicely.

| | Feb-08-12 E Paehtz vs H Tikkanen, 2012
| |
sackman: Could be a nice mid-week puzzle at move 36 - black had to foresee the strength of 38... Rc1. Neat finish!

| | Nov-10-11 C Bauer vs I Nepomniachtchi, 2011
| |
sackman: Wow!! White gradually gains the initiative and from move 34 on puts in an amazing attacking display. Strongly recommended for anyone who thinks the English is boring!

| | Nov-09-11 L Vajda vs D Fridman, 2011
| |
sackman: 12 ....Be2! gains a tempo (and likely surprised white); 20 .... Qe4!! is a very nice piece sacrifice after which black is always under control. Very nice from black!

| | Nov-09-11 Morozevich vs A Moiseenko, 2011
| |
sackman: The ultimate knights tour? - 23 of Moro's moves were with his kings knight. 43... Rxf5 looks more natural preserving his pawn structure can anyone suggest why black played 43 exf5?
| | Aug-06-11 Korchnoi vs Polugaevsky, 1963
| |
sackman: 22 bxc3! It looks unnatural to give himself doubled isolated pawns but this keeps the knight on e4. Black is surprisingly helpless against white's plan of h3 - g4 - g5. Very instructive!
