<TD> has a great sense of humor. Sometimes it is harder to tell than others. Oh yes--THIRD!!
Thanks for opening your forum. Have you decided on a theme? or will you not have one? |

 | | scormus: Thanks, guys for the encouragement. All this networking and forumising .... I never realised they had themes or names, wonder what I let myself in for :-\ BTW after "Once", should it be "Twice" ;-) |

Jan-25-11
 | | WinKing: I think you are right <scormus> the end is near. I have enjoyed your comments & input on this game also. There was still some play left & I'll never understand why so many leave when it looks as if we may not win. I will never abandon my team mates until the final move be it win, lose or draw. I would hope those that left are still 'lurking' in the background somewhere. :) |

 | | morfishine: I appreciate your comments on the "draw" situation. I thought about your idea of how to decide who the senior draw-voters are. The main point is I think the regular vote should be separated from the draw-offer vote.
On another note, I still refer back to your <g4> line where the black queen and rook switched files with the rook on <g1>. Have you studied that line more closely? I believe that line deserved more scrutiny. Feel free to drop in at my forum anytime.
Best, Morfishine |

 | | morfishine: <scormus> I see your point. For example, on move 50, if the draw voters wanted a draw, but the voters voted 50.Nc7, we can't very well offer a draw if we don't repeat. Well, I think we got a lot closer than people give us credit for. I want to ask her what she would've replied if we played 58.Qe3+ (or 59.Qe3+). The twist here is the engines at first agreed that 58...Nc5 was best while <Aylerkupp> found that it was bad!...and with the same engine! That was the last chance to test her because if she got flat evals across the board, she may've had to rely on her intuition. A glimmer, but oh well. Good working with you. I'll load up a Toga program. I think I'll go with either increasing memory or adding a second hard-drive. Any suggestions for an old school guy like me? I think I want to avoid a whole new PC but I may have to.
Best, Morf |

 | | morfishine: <scormus> Appreciate the feedback on <58.Qe3+>; I think it was the absolute last chance to test her response. She would've had to respond perfectly as <58...Nc5> is finally shown to be bad. Your earlier line with the BR ending up on <g1> is still in my mind. I think you've done very well in this environment and more than held your own; perhaps your ideas need to be marketed better, who knows. I'm upgrading to a Toga.3 so my old K2150 will be relegated to overnight "blunder-checking"! Best, Morf |

 | | morfishine: <scormus> Thanks for following up on Qe3+. Did you blog her directly? I would've done that right away except I thought she sent the message she wasn't ready to discuss the game. Notice she didn't even mention <Nc5>. Her intuition is superior to the computer's computing power (that is until RY finally found that move to be poor). Very interesting indeed. |

 | | morfishine: <scormus><I'd had some exchanged with Natlalia before the challenge... Until some way into the game the game I'd never touched an engine but I realized the only way to give credibility to any suggestion was to back it up with one> No doubt. I'm almost settled on one. I was going to get a whole new PC for myself then started thinking about just adding memory or a whole new hard drive, but I found a great electronics "refurbish" shop that sells overhauled PC's for about 30% normal. I'm going to get one just for chess analysis. I am going to load TOGA.3 and possibly GULL. Any suggestions for a newcomer to chess engines? <cro777> & <Aylerkupp> have been most helpful and I'm at the point to purchase the best fit starting out. Also, I wanted to work offline, downloading to a USB then transferring. For updates, I'll just download again. Appreciate any pointers. Morf |

 | | morfishine: Appreciate the response to the situation in Japan. I didn't want to mention anything as I'm not much of a sympathy seeker; but when you live there for almost 4 years, one gets close to the Japanese people and can't help but feeling just awful about whats going on. As for my wife's immediate family, everybody is ok as they live south and southwest of Tokyo. She does know of a friend of a friend's father who lost his life, swept out to sea. The people are incredibly stoic in their demeanor and go about what needs to be done with a calm, unhurried resolve. The class and character of the Japanese people is displayed clearly in reference to their coin-operated vending machines. These things are all over the country and offer literally everything from underwear to Beer. One would expect these harbors of fresh water, food and what-not to be looted following the Tsunami. None, literally none, have been touched. What does that say about the Japanese people? |

 | | dzechiel: Thanks for the note on my forum. If it looks like I'm "mailing it in" for the next week, it's probably because I am. My wife and I are leaving on vacation on the 23rd, and it's becoming more and more frantic as we prepare. |

 | | morfishine: From reading others posts over the past months, I believe that <LMAJ> is a nice guy. He's certainly not a "bad guy". I'd like the opportunity to "pick his brain" so to speak, with regards to chess, but it seems impossible to even open up a normal discourse. Thanks for the response, it means a lot. Yours and <sevenseaman>'s comments put things in proper perspective. |

 | | scormus: <Patriot> theyre both boss! Still, there is a hierarchy - if I fall out with WB I regret it until my job situation is mended. If I fall out with HB I regret it the rest of my life. |

 | | gawain: Thanks for the kind comment about my avatar at Vidmar vs Przepiorka, 1906. I did go to some trouble to hunt up a good image to turn into an avatar. A task well beyond my usual technical endeavors. |
