Punjab, India. Amateur interest, no rating. Anand, Alekhine and Tal are my favorite masters. A year on I add Garry Kasparov and Magnus Carlsen. After seeing his performance in this year's Tata Steel, specifically his game against Giri, I have the pleasure of adding Aronian.

morfishine: <Limpin Kt> Very Good! <1.Qh5> is best; <1.Qxe5> only draws; Below is the quote from Evans:

White can win a piece by 1.Rd8 Rb8 2.Rxb8 Qxb8 3.g3 Bxg3 4.fxg3 Qxg3 which looks messy. Cleaner is 1.Qh5 Rxe6 2.Bxe6 Qxe6 3.Rd8 g6 4.Qxh2 Qe1+ 5.Qg1

#74230 Your sol is spot-on, champion stuff.

Evans is very instructive.

<morf> You remember at new year I said my NY resolution was 'emancipation'. I've closed 99% on it. No puzzles scare me now. I stare them out sooner or later.

A far cry from the days I used to carry the newspaper cutting of puzzles in my pocket. Sometimes for months for pondering and pouring over them, whenever I got the opportunity from work. Mostly these were 2-mates where only the first move was the <key>. You cant beat the delight I used to extract.

Slowly I progressed to weeks before the sol became available. Then days; and now only minutes (sometimes even seconds, but that is about 25% or lower).

I feel I've broken loose from my attitudinal shackles - hence the excruciating feel of emancipation!

Victory over self is the hardest, but also the sweetest. (Its the most worthwhile goal, sans doubt)

Email me about more personal concerns/welfare. Thanks, you are a beacon.

Isn't chess a precise science? People bug me when they write their moves imprecisely or in their own short hand.

Above you have a precise puzzle. Simple but you cannot change the order of moves. (CT will reject you out of hand if you did that and went less than 3 moves).

morfishine: <sevenseaman> Very insightful comments on your emancipation! We all are striving for that I think

sol 80336 <1.N4f5+ exf5 2.Nxf5+> and white is winning after 3.Rxd8

sevenseaman: <morf> Sol. #74304 is indeed beautiful! How happy you must have felt, how much time did you take? I was at my wits' end and stupidly looked up. Then I felt like getting my rump a mule kick.

These innocent looking puzzles bring so much joy and sometimes, pain.

#49123 is good but #63292 is a gem. (You can rely on me posting you only good ones).

morfishine: <sevenseaman> 73404 took about a minute or so: Black's options are somewhat limited so I could quickly 'weed out' down to the correct move

sol 49123 <1.Nh6+ gxh6 2.Qg6+ Kh8 3.Qxh6+ Kg8 4.Qg6+ Kh8 5.Rh3 mate>

Now that was really cool!

When I get home this afternoon, I'll post something from Evans book. Later

sevenseaman: Looks as though an sharp combat with #62292 is going on.

Another, slightly lighter enemy appears on the horizon. But to an ambidextrous fighter its only an annoyance.

morfishine: <sevenseaman> You sly devil; I pondered over puzzle 63292 before it hit me like a ton of bricks: sol <1.0-0-0+> and White picks up the stray rook...Very Nice, I think Morphy essayed this way back in 1858, or so...:)

sevenseaman: <morf> Great! 'magine you only had to write '1. 0-0-0 on your check and sign it ' <morf to Morphy>'!

I could read more details of the travails you went through, how life rises a rung or two. Man you solved it, I didn't! Emancipation, via jalsawala?

Apr-12-12  Limpin Kt: <7cm> yest i was too tired and not to mention very sleepy, so i'm not sure in whose forum i posted solutions for puzzles. Anyway, i'm posting them again- <63292> 1.000 and <hard toil> 1.Ra7 Ra7 2.Ra7 ka7 3.Ba7 wins the queen. Good day
Apr-13-12  Limpin Kt: <91903> 1.Qh4! Re2 2.Qh3 Rh2 3.Qf1 Qg1 4.Qg1! Kg1 5.Bd4! Wins the rook.
Apr-13-12  Limpin Kt: <46024> good puzzle. 1.Bd5!

Great! What else does a man need in life? A puzzle to solve, and that's it.

It takes a man a lifetime before he can hope to fondle the tresses of a beautiful lady.
