| Feb-20-12 | | Clinton Tan Jr: Mr SPAWN2...It is only now that I have the chance to visit this site again.. and yes I am referring to Willy Abalos. During the early eighties willy was a member/player for UM along with Chito and Ed Garma, Gatus and Rogelio Antonio. We,composed of the late Andrew Vasquez, Gerry Cabellon, Ed Alix,Paragas, Yutuc,Rene Cadiz were member of the TIP chess team. As I recall it Young was with FEATI, Villamayor with UST, Yves Ranola with La Salle, Fernie Donguines was with Adamson,to name a few, also took part in the competition that we all played--- the 2nd Inter collegiate Chess tourney which Mr Abundo was the guest speaker and dubbed the competition as BATTLE OF CHAMPIONS! UM was the STRATAA CHAMP, TIP --PICUAA CHAMP; 9-time NCAA MAPUA CHAMP(during that time); UAAP Champ-UST...Other participating teams as I recall it were UP, La salle,and Adamson. Those were the days and UM WAS the Champion, we only manage 4th place.
It is good to know that most of my colleagues are still active in chess and I'm very happy and proud that once in my lifetime I was playing with them and spending a lot of sleepless nights playing in the LUNETA!!! hehehe...KUDOS and God Bless! |

Samin lang, Gov ER declared in his speech at STCAA 2012 on refurbishing the San Luis Sports Complex for a target to finally nail down Palaro hosting in 2014. Sta Rosa under Mayor Arcillas plans to construct a 'sports complex' in front of SM Starosa, she also wants to be Palaro host before her reign is over... Binan is targetting to purchase adjacent lot to a gym / sports building under construction, where a track oval is targetted. So if all those plans push thru, there will be track ovals in Sta Cruz,Binan and Sta Rosa! |

'disappointed' NSAs not being included in the priority sports : - They find this ironic now that they are getting into a stage of having Olympiad qualifiers (based on world rankings), they're not prioritized. - Out of about 20 athletes under PSC allowance/payroll, it will be down to 6 athletes under PSC's new program, paano naman daw yung development athletes who came from the provinces? - Pati athletes not under PSC program will have to evacuate out of Rizal Complex quarters... Well, this just mirrors that chess is actually in a better boat... |

Sa ganun talaga, the final team formed will just barely have '2 months preparation'... |

For GMs, its ok if its by invite and the host shoulders bulk of the expenses, we also have to do some ASEAN support and give them shot at norms... Right now, Malaysia is really gungho on getting their first GM, while Brunei continues to pursue having their own IMs... metrolirot posted in FB that NM Sander Severino (mataas FIDE at 2344) is entered in Thai Club Open and has 2.5/4. Also in the field are Abanco (2pts) and NM Ric Portugalera (1.5). In the field are 4 SuperGMs bannered by GMs Nigel Short & Hou Yi Fan... |

Malamang GM norm si IM Vakhidov he has 2628 TPR and played 5 GMs, including a win over Dad GM Vakhidov (bad taste in the mouth ano?). Seems like this tournament is for him.
