waustad: I just posted something in the Awonder Liang site that you are likely to get that most wouldn't. Assuming that people know the libretto of Lohengrin is a bit of a stretch here. Maybe that is the reason they never choose my puns. for example you'd need to know about Gene Krupa and Ukrainian geography for one of them. Oh well. In the second edition of my book I skipped the joke that assumed that the reader knew the film "The Third Man."

technical draw: <waustad> Thanks for that link. I'm hearing it right now while I'm in terrible pain with kidney stones. I took some tramadol but the music is soothing and let's me relax until the tram kicks in.

It could've been the mother-in-law of all withdrawals!

Thanks. At least this time it won't be cold turkey (like last December). I have a tapering plan and what I call an emergency withdrawal escape plan. Any way I'll probably start in September since I'll have my cousins from Germany visiting in late August.

<dak> Maybe you can help me with some German.

technical draw: I thought my blood pressure machine didn't register over 99 in the diastolic reading. I learned differently yesterday when it registered 147/114. Yipes! If I suddenly stop posting you know I had the "Big One".

TheFocus: If you have the "Big One", can I have all your Funniest Kibitzer trophies?

You know, as a remembrance of your legacy. I promise not to scratch your name off.

Cross my heart. (Fingers also crossed.)

Sure, always glad to help - although some here are more qualified for that [i.e.: they actually are German ;]

technical draw: <TheFocus> <If you have the "Big One", can I have all your Funniest Kibitzer trophies?>

I don't know. Those trophies are worth their weight in fool's gold. I sure hope my heirs don't fight over them, "you take them, no you take them!".

technical draw: <dak> With < Mir ist bewusst was Freiheit bedeutet> I thought you might be fluent in German,
Aug-10-12
Premium Chessgames Member
dakgootje: Not as fluent as my English.

So whereas my English understanding and production might be nigh native, my German isn't.

Understanding perhaps 75%; I know what a story is about and understand most of it but not everything. Especially with little-used words I might need a dictionary.

Production is much much harder. Partly because I never ever really need it.
