thegoodanarchist: So anyway, I bought one of those sweet onions a few weeks ago - the Vidalia. I chopped it up and put it in some pickle brine I had left over after finishing a jar of dill pickles. Then I topped it off with some red wine vinegar.

I did the same thing with some celery, putting the chopped pieces in a gherkin brine.

Now when I make tuna salad, I add chopped onion and celery, along with the green olive slices and diced sweet pickle chips.

Just now had a batch, using tuna packed in olive oil (which I do NOT drain), plus mayo and salt.

Delicious! That is the verdict.

Annie K.: Consider adding a little butter (not necessary if you're going for "dietetic", but it improves the texture), and other great seasonings: mustard, sweet paprika (powder), and/or turmeric. ;)

So I will give that a try next time.

morfishine: <thegoodanarchist> Nice to see you trying the sweet onions: these fill-in anywhere and can be used raw on sandwiches

Lately I've been doing a lot of slow-smoke grilling outside. I particularly enjoy St Louis pork ribs, Baby back ribs, beef ribs and brined whole chicken(s). Pork butts and Briskets are on the radar :)

What makes it so enjoyable is I've been using fresh oak from tree branches that ripped off during Hurricane Irma last fall. I grabbed a bunch of limbs, chunks and outright branches and stored them out back. Once these dried properly, I had my handyman use his chainsaw to cut them up into serviceable pieces. The result has been terrific. I swear the flavor is much better than store bought wood chips

I've been slow cooking Saturdays and Sundays for the past month and can't wait til the next weekend!

<morf> that sounds awesome! The "fresh" wood chips make all the difference, apparently, and you didn't have to buy them.

Here the snow is not quite melted, so IMO it's not grilling season yet.

  optimal play: Hello <tga>

I'm presently conducting a survey on chessgames of American supporters of the Second Amendment.

The survey question is this...

As a supporter of the Second Amendment:

a) Do you own any guns?

b) If so, how many?

c) What type?

d) Have you ever shot anyone? (optional)

Thanking you in advance for your participation in this survey.

It is rather interesting, while President Obama was in office, gun companys' stock went up. Because people feared regulations and restrictions.

The opposite have happened with Trump. (You can google this...)

WannaBe: As a side note to my answer(s)...

California requires you to pass a basic proficiency test, and it is actually quite simple and logical.

Just have been very lazy and not done it yet. And the background check.

However, if worst comes, I have a good friend that lives close, and he have a lot of guns (ex-Air Force) and shoots pistols in competitions.

So, if any Zombie apocalypse break out, I'm getting into my car and drive over there. Provided that my friend have not turned into a Zombie, yet.

This is because gun enthusiasts tend to be extremely politically partisan. They see the entire complex political fabric of America as "Dems are To Blame! Dems will destroy everything!"

So they invest accordingly, and buy guns accordingly (Many of these people are wild-eyed kooks!)

When Obama was elected, I remember there were a couple of these folk where I worked. The look in their eyes after the election was fear/crazy. INTENSE fear/crazy.

They were talking about how many guns they were buying, how much ammo, how the gun shops couldn't keep inventory, etc. And mostly, how Obama was gonna steal their guns!

It was quite an eye-opener for me, of how well the NRA controls the minds of their useful idiots.

I've read how quit a few of these folks didn't invest in stocks from 2009-2017, when Obama was prez. They missed the first 8 years of one of the longest bull markets in history.

In response to (b), (c) & (d) apparently nobody owns any military-grade assault rifles or has shot anybody.

Based on these results we can conclude the following:-

1. Support for the Second Amendment appears quite weak since out of all the Americans on chessgames only seven responded.

Now that's not to imply that no other Americans on chessgames support the Second Amendment. They simply may have not been bothered or interested to respond, or didn't see the survey, or perhaps were ashamed to admit it?

Nevertheless, there wasn't a wave of patriotic Americans showing their support for the Second Amendment, which is telling.

2. Over 70% of supporters of the Second Amendment don't own a gun, and of the less than 30% who do, none admitted to having a military-grade assault rifle.

This would be of great concern to those Americans who believe that they all need military-grade weaponry to defend their freedom against a tyrannical government gone rogue.

Apparently there's not going to be very many patriotic Americans sufficiently armed against the US government when that time comes!?

3. Supporters of the Second Amendment are a small minority, and of those supporters, gun owners are a small minority, and of those gun owners, military-grade weaponry is held by only a tiny minority of the populace.

Very interesting results. >

thegoodanarchist: Super solid delt workout today.

Not the best ever, but above average and accretive to my goals.

One reason is because I did something different.

What didn't change is that I started with military press. That's a given. It is THE compound movement exercise for building shoulder mass and strength.

However, in the past I was doing Arnold press second, and rear deltoid flies third.

Well, I switched that order today and did rear delt flies second. This fatigues the back of the shoulder, making the Arnold presses more challenging, AND more beneficial. Got a good burn which will turn into a good soreness over the next couple of days.

Post-workout meal was the green smoothie shake that I've posted previously.

But that was lunch. What about dinner???

thegoodanarchist: What about dinner? I will tell you about dinner!

BEST LASAGNA EVER!

Listen up, people. If you like lasagna, but you want a delicious gluten-free option, I have got the perfect recipe for you.

No boil! That's right, you heard me! Work load in the kitchen has been cut down with a no-boil lasagna that saves time, effort and doesn't skimp on flavor.

I use Tinkyada Brown Rice Pasta Lasagna noodles. Gluten Free, and reasonably priced.

In addition to the noodles, I suggest the following ingredients:

1 lb. grass-fed ground beef
2 TBSP extra-virgin olive oil
1 jar (24 oz.) Newman's Own Pasta Sauce (Sockarooni is the bomb!)
1 tsp. minced garlic
1/2 cup Birdseye Frozen Onions and Peppers, chopped
10 - 12 black olives, chopped
1 can anchovies in olive oil
1 container organic cottage cheese (grass-fed is better, but I can only find that at Whole Foods)
2 cups Mozzarella Cheese
2 whole eggs (Omega 3 are better for you)
Parmesian Cheese
1 package (6 oz.) fresh baby spinach

1. combine ground beef and minced garlic in frying pan. Brown on high until no beef is pink. Reduce heat to medium low.
2. Add chopped black olives and Birdseye onions and peppers. Continue heating on medium low for a couple of minutes.
3. Drain the olive oil from the anchovies into the beef & veggie mix. Chop the anchovies, then stir them in as well.
4. Add in the pasta sauce to the ground beef. Rinse the jar with a quarter cup of water (no more than that!) and put it into the mix as well.
5. Turn the heat down to low and keep the sauce mix just warm.
6. Take slightly less than half the cottage cheese and mix it in a bowl with just less than half the mozzarella. Add one of the eggs and stir until mixed.
7. In a large lasagna pan (I use a glass one) put down a layer of 3 pasta noodles. If you have broken shards, use them to fill any gaps at the end of the pan.
8. Spread the cottage cheese/egg/mozza mix on top of the noodles.
9. Preheat the oven to 325 F.
10. Spread the fresh baby spinach over the cottage cheese layer.
11. Spread half the beef/veggie/sauce mix over the spinach, evenly. Start with small amounts, as it is easy to overdo it. The fresh spinach should start to wilt under the warm sauce mix.
12. Add a second layer of lasagna noodles.
13. Combine the second egg with the remaining cottage cheese and mozza, and spread over the noodles just like the first layer.
14. Spread remaining beef/sauce mix over the top.
15. Bake for 65 minutes in the preheated oven.
16. Remove from oven and cover with a dusting of Parmesan cheese. Bake an additional 5 to 10 minutes.
17. Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes. This will allow the noodles to absorb most of the moisture, leaving a firm and delicious lasagna that will impress the hell out of gourmet chefs.

<OEUFS GALLIMAUFRAY A LA SHAMKIR>

Take one raw egg, or, (for vegans) a pint of milk.

Add two fried eggs and sprinkle with salt.

Add to the yolk a good white stock or chopped parsley, or pepper, and braise them (this is called Miroton avec chat).

Add sugar until they are very sweet. Add a teaspoonful of water to your mixture, and some chopped parsley and mint.

Add four more yolks. Then add some mushrooms and salt.

Then add another egg and add some very fresh cream to flavour it.

Next, cover with salt, and add a decorative border to your eggs.

Salt the whites and add a small quantity of half-boiled cold water, and add in a dessert-spoonful of sugar.

To the eggs, add pepper, salt and water. Let them boil for eighteen minutes.

Then an extra five minutes with potatoes in a dark place.

thegoodanarchist: Well, today at the gym was fairly good.

It was pec day. I knew, going in, I wouldn't be able to get close to my previous personal best on the bench press. This is due to having a respiratory infection that kept me to one gym session a week for the past 3 weeks.

I read an article on the web, at the end of Winter. Actually, I only read the title. Something about "Is it true we get sick at the change of seasons?" BS, I called, and scrolled past it.

Next day was Spring. Boom! - I got sick. Dang! That was pisser.

So, the illness and lack of gym work cut 20 lbs off my bench press. No matter, I did an extra set to compensate. Then I did dips, and added a couple of extra sets at lower weight.

The idea was to do a couple of high weight/low rep sets, followed by higher rep sets with lower weight, to increase the muscle pump and kick start my physical fitness.

Great dinner too. A 7-oz. burger with 85% lean, grass-fed beef. Also, 3 omega-3 eggs over medium, hash browns, a green salad, and a whole avocado. Very satisfying. Salad dressing was made with avocado oil too! Dessert was 4 dark chocolate peanut butter cups.

**********

Tonight I went to the gym late, because it is always crowded at 5, and I worked late 'til 5:30 anyway!

Back day. I omitted dead lifts, since I did those Sunday. They really take it out of ya, so I only do dead lifts twice in one week every other week.

I did extra sets on the t-bar, one medium weight, 3 sets heavy, 3 sets medium again.

Then I did pull ups on the machine, all medium weight higher reps.

There are a few HS girls who work out at my gym, and one of them has enormous breasts. She is beautiful, too, with a cute behind. If I were in the same classes as her I don't think I'd graduate.

Ended with reverse curls, for forearm/bicep work. I need to get stronger there or my dream of doing 10 unassisted pull ups will not come to fruition.
