thegoodanarchist: And another thing <BP>. This is exactly what I was concerned would happen. I wanted to talk about being a Christian and voting for someone in the Democratic Party. And you had to go and derail the conversation into my own personal life. That was an inconsiderate thing

thegoodanarchist: Even the 2600-players can be bluffed by the super elite of chess. I don't think MVL (for example) would have declined the sac, and I don't think So would have played it against him

Well, I think <diceman> is right:

<All of them.>

Because Trump's presidency is what I shall tactfully describe as "unconventional", I think the Democratic Party will smell a chance for victory in 2020.

I personally think the best rising star in the Democratic Party is Gavin Newsome, but he hasn't even served on the level of "Governor" of a state. So his actual chance might be slim, unless he gets elected Senator next year (taking the Obama route).

And I don't even know if he is running for Senate next year!

Honestly, I view the most prominent Dems as either too old (Biden) or too extreme (Elizabeth Warren) to be palatable.

Which reminds me, I need to go switch parties, from Democratic Party to Libertarian Party.

And here is a link to today's GOTD, which I want to study later:

Can you convert that to Kelvins?>

<thegoodanarchist: 505.98

I couldn't wait any longer>

505.928?>

Freezing point of water: 273.2 K = 32 deg. F

451-32 = 419

Conversion of 419 Fs to Ks is done by dividing by 1.8:

419 F/1.8 F per K = 232.777... or 232.78 Ks.

Next add this amount to the freezing point:

273.2 + 232.78 = 505.98 (actually 505.9777...)

I used 273.15 :)

Dec-25-17

  thegoodanarchist: <<<diceman:>>

I should have, too. It is inconsistent to round 273.15 to 273.2, but then round the repeating 7 at the second decimal place, 232.78, instead of 232.8.

Lump of coal for me.

Honestly, it's been so long since I used the Kelvin scale that I completely forgot the freezing point is 273.15 K. I knew it was "273 point something", and used google's 273.2 value.

That was sloppy work on my part. If insisting on using a "first decimal" value, then I should have reported "505.9 K". An alternative is to report 505.9278. There are other proper alternatives.

I set a high standard for myself, and this time wasn't up to it.

offramp: Happy New Year, Good Anarchist!

In case you are ever puzzled about what I mean by a Good Anarchist mate, here is an example:

click for larger view

It is a queen supported by one pawn giving mate to a king that has his own pawns as self-blocks. I was worried that if you saw me using the term then you might be insulted in a Rogoff/Kibitzer's Café mad kind of way.

Look out for them in 2018!

offramp: There was a couple of things that worried me about Kelvins.

Firstly, you don't need the degree symbol °.
That is very worrying. The people in my class who learnt Kelvins first also got no degree symbols.

Secondly, zero kelvin is bloody close to temperature we are at now. There is a zone above Jupiter that rejoices in a summer temperature of 31,000,000 K. (29,999,967K in winter.)

What I mean is: We are in the absolute bottom percentage of available temperatures in the universe!

How awful!

offramp: As a European I only ever use Celsius nowadays. But I remember Fahrenheit, including how very hard it was to spell.

But Fahrenheit has problems when it comes to freezing temperatures.

In Europe we might say, "It's zero degrees out there."

But the same phrase in Fahrenheit means.. what?

There's also a phrase I sometimes hear:
"Five degrees of frost." What does that mean?

And when people say, talking in Fahrenheit, "It is minus 5 out there today." So what temperature is that?

thegoodanarchist: <offramp> No offense taken! I embrace the use of the term Good Anarchist mate.

Of course, it doesn't have the same cache as "Epaulet Mate"

Which raises the question, is "Epaulet Mate" a subset of Accoutrements mates?
