   Jul-30-14 Robert James Fischer (replies)
tzar: <Petrosianic: That's because he played for well over a decade as "just another" Top 10 player, while Kasparov was ahead of everyone in the pack except Karpov practically from the day he appeared on the scene.> Absolutely agree (well mostly Top 5 as you also pointed out). IMO this
   Jul-25-14 Anatoly Karpov
tzar: <Sally Simpson: Karpov is one these players where you can pick a lesser known game at random and stumble upon a cracker...Karpov played 11...Ke7> Nice you found this game...I think I would also have found Ke7 but in a million years.
   Jul-23-14 Garry Kasparov (replies)
tzar: Kasparov record: DARK EPISODES: -Tried to play a double game by being a CPSU member, benefiting from USSR privileges but sort of wanted to pretend that he was a rebel. -Accused FIDE and Campomanes of cheating when cancelling 1984 WC match. -Accused Karpov of cheating in the 1985 WC

tzar: The sad thing about this discussion is that it could take place 10 or 20 years ago with almost identical facts and points and probably in 10 or 20 years time we will be talking about approximatelly the same scenario.
Mar-29-14 World Chess Championship Candidates (2014) (replies)
tzar: <Memethecat:> I agree with your remark...I said "Great Champion" meaning an All Time Great player who became WC.
   Mar-02-14 Jose Raul Capablanca (replies)
tzar: <devere:> The problem is that before this strait wins Fischer had been more than 10 years playing with no real superiority over the best (and even with very bad results against some of them i.e. Spassky). Meanwhile, Capa was at least until 1927 a super genius thousands of miles ...
   Feb-14-14 Lasker vs J Bauer, 1889
tzar: I think this game became a model for future players as far as bishop against King's pawns sacs are concerned.
   Feb-13-14 Emanuel Lasker (replies)
tzar: I think that Lasker in his 60's was 2700+ by today's standards.
   Feb-06-14 Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (replies)
tzar: Very close to victory in Gibraltar. I liked especially the last game with Ivanchuk, very brave. If France's number one keeps progressing he can be a challenge for the best in a short time. He has a lot of class.
   Feb-06-14 Nigel Short (replies)
tzar: Nigel: your "friend" Cheparinov has won Gibraltar (a tournament in which you have many times performed excellently). What do you think about him as a player? (we know that maybe he is not the greatest example of sportsmanship).
