   Jan-19-16 M Muzychuk vs F Lindsoe, 2013 (replies)

vodkaboris: I too went for the pawn grab on b5, thinking I'd win a pawn and be decently placed for the endgame. Imagine my surprise, to quote that august journal of record Viz, when I found that Nc7 captured a king rather than a queen.

   Dec-17-15 M Karthikeyan vs Eljanov, 2014 (replies)

vodkaboris: One of the easiest Thursdays for a while. White needs to promote the 'h'-pawn as it will be immune from Black king and bishop. So all he has to do is force the issue and create that passed pawn one way or another. There've been harder Mondays than this.

   Sep-02-15 D H Campora vs K Shirazi, 1981 (replies)

vodkaboris: Damn. On the right lines - realised it had to be a stalemate and so had to shut off f2 as an escape square for the white king - but didn't see it all the way through.

   Jul-23-15 G Steiner vs N Sommerbauer, 1994 (replies)

vodkaboris: Surely two pieces cover the flight squares? The queen has all but g3, which is the knight's.

Jul-02-14 T van de Berkmortel vs Bronstein, 1993 (replies)

vodkaboris: Thriller, by Michael Jackson.

Jun-19-14 Tomashevsky vs Nakamura, 2014 (replies)

vodkaboris: Are you being serious, latvalatvian? Hope not.

   May-21-14 Spielmann vs H Strassl, 1912

vodkaboris: 23...Kxa5 24. Qd2+ mates.

   Feb-09-12 P Pietinen vs C Randlov, 2012 (replies)

vodkaboris: I spent a minute or so trying to break through on f2 or g3, and saw no joy. Since white has so many threats of his own, particularly with the discovered check of d6 followed by two passed pawns, I thought about trying to attack his queen, and Rc3 just fell into place once you see

   Sep-21-11 V Mikenas vs Bronstein, 1965 (replies)

vodkaboris: Football has Carlos Alberto scoring the fourth goal against Italy in 1970. Rugby has the French running from behind their own line at Twickenham in 1991. Cricket has Botham's Ashes. And chess has Bronstein's 24....Rxa3!!

   May-26-11 Y Visser vs Bosboom-Lanchava, 2006 (replies)

vodkaboris: Me too, PB. Right moves, wrong order.
