w7n: As analysed, after 25. ...Kxe4, 26.c4!! mates in 9 which is even faster. One way to prolong the game for black is 25. ...Ke6(where there's no immediate mate) but prolonging the game after 26. Qxg6+ is equivalent to prolonging the agony.

w7n: <diap> There isn't a black piece on c3 that can be taken. If you mean Bxe3, then after 27. ..Qxb2 white could already resign. If you mean Bc3, then 27. ..Qxb2 works in a way similar to the actual game.

w7n: The interesting fact is that when this game was analysed by Kieseritsky (in La Regence), the most critical move 18.Bd6 was given the comment 'the coup de grace which proves all black's efforts futile'. Supposedly the line which saves black from being crushed was too hard for chess ...
