Anton Ivanov

I am a senior at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. I'm currently majoring in Economics and minoring in Business and International and Global Studies. I am, for the second year in a row, an intern at the Federal Reserve. However, I'm on the lookout for a full time job after I graduate in May 2009.

Born in Estonia (Russian by origin), lived in Estonia, Russia, France, and then moved to the US, where I have been living for the past 15 years. Learned to play chess at 6 years old, but don't play it very much nowadays. However, one of my best friends at school was the under-12 champion of MA back in the day.

Favorite Players:
Kasparov, Short, Korchnoi, Radjabov, Nakamura, Morozevich, Ivanchuk, Kamsky, Carlsen

My other hobbies include playing electric guitar, writing lyrics, hanging out with friends, heavy metal, following American politics, etc.

Feel free to use my personal forum in the discussion of chess, politics, heavy metal, musical instruments, whatever ;-)

yoozum: Really hoping Magnus pulls away with a win in this tournament. If he manages this, I think he'll be unofficially and officially recognized as the current best player in the world. I'm also hoping for a nice Moro performance.

yoozum: I'm sure this has already been answered, but I'm sitting in class bored out of my mind. Will this result have Carlsen surpass Topalov for #1? I don't know the ratings formula regarding how many points he'll gain for his +230 performance.

   Sep-23-09 Kasparov-Karpov Rapid Match (2009) (replies)

yoozum: We can probably sum up the interest in this chess match with this: Kasparov has left a void in the chess world that apparently only he can fill.

yoozum: A user at chessninja.com had a good joke... < Things to do this weekend: Get a 22. Nf6+ tatoo >

yoozum: <Nikita Smirnov: if you like heavy metal, do you like Alice In Chains?> Sorry for responding half a year later, but I wouldn't actually consider them heavy metal, but Grunge.

Feb-17-09 Topalov vs Kamsky, 2009 (replies)

yoozum: Looks like Kamsky just wants to save his energy for his white game.

yoozum: What is it now, -4 for Morozevich?

yoozum: <Phorqt: This is not about doping. Doping is just a red herring. This about who calls the shots. *** Bingo. > Agreed. While I am on Ivanchuk's side of this, I can see why FIDE is doing this. They can't have someone challenge their authority like this without being punished

   Dec-03-08 M Palac vs Agrest, 2008 (replies)

yoozum: I was thinking more along the lines of an immediate 35...Nf2, forcing the white queen out and giving good attacking options for black. Obviously what actually happened was better.

Nov-25-08 Anand vs Salov, 1991 (replies)

yoozum: I got this one as well, but not after looking at possible piece sacrifices to checkmate the enemy king for a minute or two. Then I realized that the black queen had extremely restricted movement and could potentially be trapped.
