   Mar-27-08 B Blumenfeld vs Botvinnik, 1931 (replies)

Leviathan: Nice tactical sequence at the end.

   Feb-22-08 H Helms vs Marshall, 1897 (replies)

Leviathan: Young Marshall gets obliterated. Everyone who plays the dutch should know that trying to trap the Bg5 bishop is a bad idea - white goes e3 and Bd3 and the h5-e8 diagonal is just too weak.

Feb-10-08 V Zvjaginsev vs Zhang Pengxiang, 2007 (replies)

Leviathan: Zvjaginsev shows creative play and cold-headed defense in a very beautiful game. 18.Ra2 is a gorgeous defensive move - doubling rooks behind the weak a4 pawn was . Then Pengxiang sacs a piece to get two connected passers, but Mr. Z doesn't panic. 31.Nxf7 returns the piece and ...

Feb-09-08 Euwe vs Flohr, 1939 (replies)

Leviathan: Spectacular game by Euwe, going for an ambitious attack on the kingside. But I can't explain 14. ... Bf8 and 17. ... e6 - what was Flohr trying to do? After that the dark squares around his king are all weak and white's dark square bishop is a monster. Maybe 14. ... a5 followed by

Feb-09-08 Kasparov vs Chiburdanidze, 1980 (replies)

Leviathan: What about 14. g5 Bg3 15.h4 ? Looks much safer to me.

Jan-28-07 Conel Hugh O'Donel Alexander (replies)

Leviathan: Another one, on the same website: <"If you play Botvinnik, it is even alarming to see him write his move down. Slightly short-sighted, he stoops over his scoresheet and devotes his entire attention to recording the move in the most beautifully clear script; one feels that an ...

   Jan-26-07 M Monticelli vs Marshall, 1931 (replies)

Leviathan: Great game indeed! Black's queenside attack is extraordinarily powerful. However, I like 19.Nh4 much more than 19.Ba4, that looks a bit too passive in my humble amateur opinion. If 19. Nh4 Bg5 20.Bd3 or if 19. Nh4 Be4 20.Bd7 seems to give black a little more counterplay.

   Jan-26-07 Y Shulman vs G Vescovi, 2005 (replies)

Leviathan: <erli: why did he play 34. f5?> Probably just to open the f-file for the rook, since the f7 pawn is already under pressure. It looks like a good idea to me but somehow white didn't catch the opportunity to grab the f7 pawn and lost because of that, as <Honza> rightly ...

   Jan-05-07 Adorjan vs Kurajica, 1967

Leviathan: A spectacular display of aggressive energy. White's multiple sacrifices make his play highly entertaning: a true example for any intuitive (and brave) tactical player. Especially I consider the final mate in four very artistic and amusing. Although black's game is far from ...

   Dec-12-06 M Napolitano vs E Hintikka, 1984

Leviathan: Black's coordination is impressive: every piece (king included) is involved in the attack, while white is badly entangled. 9.Bxf6 is already questionable (is the doubled c-pawn really worth the loss of the dark-squared bishop?) and 11.fxe5 is an oversight after which the game ...
