No matter what I say, the truth is that I love chess and I love chess players.

"If one wants to rid oneself of an unbearable pressure, one needs hashish."

- Nietzsche

"As usual: the pawns are all sacrificed."

- Garry Kasparov

"Why do you want to televise chess? Obviously, to fill your pockets. This way you're not profaning just chess; also chess fans and chess players."

- Louis Baquero

"Great players and many of their followers returned to the classical heritage and discovered new depths of this great, most solid defense."

- Kasparov, how to play the King's Gambit

SetNoEscapeOn: Well then, how much cash does he need?
Jul-23-14 Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Meeting (2014) (replies)
SetNoEscapeOn: <Cant be that difficult eh?> Not if you understand the simple concept, which is exactly what <plang> said.

Jul-18-14 Chess Olympiad (Women) (2014) (replies)
SetNoEscapeOn: Since the regulations did not even list exclusion as a consequence of not submitting a team's lineup on time, what exactly are the organizer's grounds for booting the Russian Team? It seems clear to me that they, along with the other late federations, should be charged the ...
Jul-13-14 Caruana vs Ponomariov, 2014 (replies)
SetNoEscapeOn: Beautiful finish by Caruana.
   Jul-03-14 Magnus Carlsen (replies)
SetNoEscapeOn: Absolutely. Carlsen considers chess to be a sport- he mentions this on his joint interview with Aronian. Personally I agree with Kramnik, that you can't really pigeonhole our thing. Nothing quite like it.
Jun-26-14 Carlsen vs Anand, 2014 (replies)
SetNoEscapeOn: <But he's undoubtly the greatest. And if you disagree, ask yourself what it would take for you to acknowledge that fact.> Ten more years or so of similar performances would do it for me. Kasparov dominated four generations of chess players.
Jun-20-14 FIDE World Blitz Championship (2014) (replies)
SetNoEscapeOn: Magnus is like a runaway train, and he's already faced the toughest opposition. Those chasing him can only hope for him to stumble and fall.
Jun-19-14 FIDE World Rapid Championship (2014) (replies)
SetNoEscapeOn: It was certainly strange that Nakamura did not even sniff the top spots. I wonder what the live rapid rating list looks like.
Jun-13-14 Norway Chess Tournament (2014) (replies)
SetNoEscapeOn: <Domdaniel: People who make mistakes in English spelling or grammar may have good reasons. English may not be their first language. But it might be more intelligent to try to remedy such errors, rather than aggressively defending them.> I don't think people would ...
