   Jun-25-19 Miles vs C W Pritchett, 1982 (replies)
gawain: I found Be5,threatening mate and disconnecting the black rooks. I think I must have seen this position before.
   Jun-14-19 T Banusz vs N E Povah, 2018
gawain: Interesting kibitzing, today. As for the puzzle, I did not see 31 Ng5. I did not even see the previous move 30 Nd6. I was too focused on the h7 square. Good puzzle.
   Jun-12-19 T Beerdsen vs Nijboer, 2018 (replies)
gawain: (In my initial comment I meant 19 Be3 of course. Not 19 Qe3.) It's interesting how important it is that both of Black's bishops are suddenly en prise after 19 Be3 Qxe3 20 Rxd7 Kxd7. Black's rook (on d7 in the puzzle position) was doing too much work.
Jun-10-19 Sveshnikov vs Shcherbakov, 1991 (replies)
gawain: Beautiful mate!
Jun-05-19 Janowski vs Maroczy, 1900 (replies)
gawain: Perhaps Maroczy was trying to win the game without ever moving his queen. He succeeded in keeping his queen on her starting square for 33 moves.
   Jun-04-19 Delarochette vs J Negro, 1983 (replies)
gawain: Smothered mate. Surrendering the queen and THEN another piece to bring it about. Fantastic!
Jun-03-19 Euwe vs S Van Mindeno, 1927 (replies)
gawain: Qxf7+ Back rank mate is coming whether Black answers by capturing White's queen or moving his king. I recognize Van Mindeno's name. This miniature must be in one of those entertaining collections by Chernev or Reinfeld.
May-31-19 Smyslov vs Ribli, 1983 (replies)
gawain: I guessed that the winning combination would start with Rxe6+ but I did not see the discovered attack on the Black queen. Nifty.
May-30-19 Ponomariov vs Gelfand, 2008 (replies)
gawain: Very compelling--once you start down the right road with 15 Nxg6.
   May-29-19 L Day vs D Bailey, 1983 (replies)
gawain: A pretty mating combination. I found Bxf6+ (which is just as good as Qxf6+) and then for some reason kept looking and eventually settled on Nxf6 which (because it allows 36 ... Rh8) is a much worse choice.
