May-16-13 Kotov vs Kholmov, 1971 (replies)

howlwolf: I don't know about math humor.

   May-16-13 D Edelman vs J Curdo, 1983 (replies)

howlwolf: AJ, What's a chessboard? I just look at a computer screen. Count me for the Rxf3+ group;I liked the mating position after Kf2.

   May-08-13 R Mamedov vs B Firat, 2013

howlwolf: if 24 Nxc4 25 Nh6+ is nasty, brutish and short.

Apr-04-13 Xiu Deshun vs J Sriram, 2012 (replies)

howlwolf: I did not like this puzzle. I looked at it said to myself Qxh5 is the obvious move, the move I would play in the position otb, saw the mate if the knight on g5 moved with Qh1+ followed by Nh2+, but thought it can't be that obvious and finally gave up to look at the game.

   Apr-02-13 Shirov vs E Dizdarevic, 2004 (replies)

howlwolf: Somehow I always feel that people that play the scandanavian don't really understand chess; and it pisses me off if they then beat me with it. Shirov too, I imagine.

Mar-29-13 World Championship Candidates (2013) (replies)

howlwolf: Bobwhoosta, That certainly explains why a player like Nezhmetdinov played infrequently if at all internationally and never even made GM despite being up there with Tal as far as tactical acumen. From what I know of his bio he was even a hero in the great patriotic war, but maybe ...

   Mar-27-13 Schmaltz vs R Har-Zvi, 2001 (replies)

howlwolf: Isn't shmaltz the yiddish term for chicken fat? If so one of his games might lead to the title the shmaltz is in the fire.

Mar-27-13 Carlsen vs Gelfand, 2013 (replies)

howlwolf: After 34 Rd5, couldn't black have countered by Re8, holding on to the e-pawn. I have anlyzed a little and can't see any reason why not. It may be that Gelfand felt the move Qc1 created a more unbalanced position and he had to play more out for the win. Anybody have any analysis why

   Mar-25-13 Menchik vs Euwe, 1931

howlwolf: I like that Menchik played a lot of men--maybe there weren't that many women to play with. Two wins over Euwe, a win over Sultan Khan, and a win over Revshevsky; not too shabby.

Mar-24-13 Kamsky vs Seirawan, 2012 (replies)

howlwolf: I didn't spend a lot of time on this, felt Bxh6 had to be the first move, but then went with the quiet (too quiet) Qd2, thinking only of Ng8 when I believe Rxg8+ does lead to mate; Kxg8 is forced and then Qxh6 and I thought white mates. (He doesn't Bxf2 stops the rook check on g1. ...
