I live in Owen Sound, ON and I have a very, very bad rating and I don't care. My favorite players are Alekhine, Botvinnik, Capablanca, Tchigorin, Shirov, Karpov, Spassky and of course Dolmatov. Among the "young" players I like Leko, Svidler and Radjabov (if you can call Leko and Svidler "young"). Theoretically, I enjoy the Ruy Lopez, Caro-Kann, King's Indian and Botvinnik Semi-Slav as Black ;) On FICS I am 'threeminutewarnin'.

Nezhmetdinov's Law - "He who analyzes blitz games is stupid"

no one ever learned anything by resigning? sure they did...what about humility? honor? sportsmanship?

i am playing the Sicilian for life...to quote Viktor Korchnoi "is there not a resemblance between the Sicilian defender and the wrestler who begins the fight before he has climbed into the ring?" i'm totally that wrestler ;)

also, like korchnoi, i eat oatmeal every day in the hopes that i can stay mentally alert into my 70s

"Some openings were to be used as a surprise weapon and treated like a condom to be used once and never again!" - Nigel Short

"When a player is not in a good mood and loses it means his technique is not on a high level" - Geller ?

I'm now an master (2300) on ICCF!

My goal for 2015 is to get a correspondence IM norm...and not to avoid the French at all.

"I may yet be forced to admit that the Winawer is sound. But I doubt it!" - Fischer

morfishine: Hello <refutor> I just read your comment here from 13 years ago: Boleslavsky vs Bronstein, 1950 (kibitz #15)

I could not agree more. Too often, people around <CG> denigrate preparation, writing in a condescending manner as if prep is sneaky and cheating. Preparation is the most important tool of the chess master

refutor: very cool, thanks Chessical :)

Chesswise, I have been pretty busy. Leaving tomorrow for Sault Ste. Marie to take part in the Canadian Open. If I have any interesting games, I may post them. In addition, the 2016 CCCA Canadian Correspondence Championship is finishing up and I am leading with 6.5/9 and the best anyone can do is tie me, so i'm very happy with that.

With that beautifull name it can not go all wrong ;). And what a privelleged situation you are in before the final games in CCCA !

refutor: I'm at 1/2 and am paired up against my brother in round 3. round one, I dropped a piece in the first fifteen moves, tried to pass it off as a sacrifice but I was just beat. second game, I grabbed a pawn in the opening, then two then ground him down in a rook endgame. we will see what today brings.
