This last clip at the end sums up most of the Let It Be session & why it had to shelved for awhile... Harrison said he's got a song, I Me Mine.. He tells the band, "Ya want to hear it.. I don't give a f*@% if ya don't want it in yer show it can go in a musical".. lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut8...

optimal play: Travis, why do you specify the American version of Rubber Soul amongst your favourites?

The American records up until Sgt Pepper were not genuine Beatle albums, but abridged melange patchworks of their songs.

A comparison of the genuine original UK Rubber Soul and the US version reveals the deficiency of their American variation.

The American version only has 12 tracks compared to the original 14 and excludes Drive My Car, What Goes On, If I Needed Someone, and Nowhere Man, but includes I've Just Seen a Face and It's Only Love, both of which had already appeared earlier on their UK Help album.

The Beatles themselves had become so disgusted with Capitol's treatment of their albums by this time that they issued a protest in the form of the infamous butcher cover.

They considered their albums to be their "babies" and Capitol was just cutting them up and issuing their scaled-down mixed-up versions to make more money, effectively ripping off their American fans.

So when Capitol wanted an album cover for their cobbled-together Yesterday and Today, the Beatles sent them the butcher cover to let them know what they thought of their album releases.

So just out of curiosity Travis, why do you specify the American version of Rubber Soul in your top 5 list?

Wrong.

<A comparison of the genuine original UK Rubber Soul and the US version reveals the deficiency of their American variation.>

Very wrong.

<The American version only has 12 tracks compared to the original 14 and excludes Drive My Car, What Goes On, If I Needed Someone, and Nowhere Man, but includes I've Just Seen a Face and It's Only Love, both of which had already appeared earlier on their UK Help album.>

It has "You won't see me" on the US version. That's enough for me to say I prefer the US version.

<The Beatles themselves had become so disgusted with Capitol's treatment of their albums by this time that they issued a protest in the form of the infamous butcher cover.>

Complete fabrication. Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia. If you check out my channel you'll hear Lennon explain everything.

<They considered their albums to be their "babies" and Capitol was just cutting them up and issuing their scaled-down mixed-up versions to make more money, effectively ripping off their American fans.>

!????

Wrong. Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia.

<So just out of curiosity Travis, why do you specify the American version of Rubber Soul in your top 5 list?>

Because it's better than the English version. Most English Beatle fans agree on this.

Travis Bickle: <optimal play> I know all of the facts you stated.. I grew up with The American version.. So did Brian Wilson who was inspired after hearing Rubber Soul to make the Classic Pet Sounds album.. I think Drive My Car is an abysmal song, 1 of the worst Beatles songs I've ever heard.. I've Just Seen a Face is an excellent album opener.. It's folky just like Norwegian Wood, Michelle, It's Only Love, Girl & the Immortal In My Life.. I think Ringo's What Goes On is a b side track that is rightly omitted.. If I Needed Someone isn't very good either.. I love Harrison's Think For Yourself, a Great track..

I agree with Dr O on the urban legend about The Butcher cover.. I've heard George Harrison say he didn't want to do that cover on Yesterday & Today which is a good little album in it's own right..

optimal play: <Dr Winston OBoogie: ... It has "You won't see me" on the US version. That's enough for me to say I prefer the US version.>

"You Won't See Me" is also on the original UK album, numbskull!

Side one, third song.

You claim to prefer the US version because it has "You won't see me", yet "You won't see me" is also on the original UK album!?

LOL!

What a nitwit you are!

First you think that "Hey Bulldog" is on Magical Mystery Tour (it's on Yellow Submarine) and now you don't even know that "You won't see me" is on the original UK Rubber Soul!?

Sheesh!

You are a fair-dinkum knucklehead!

<Travis Bickle: ... I grew up with The American version>

Okay, that really explains it.

Personal favourites are often determined by emotional attachment, particularly in regards to music.

My point was not so much to denigrate the US version but just to point out that it wasn't really a genuine album in the sense of them having gone into the studio and recorded those songs for the LP.

They did that with their UK record, but the US version does not reflect a coherent album in the sense of deciding on 14 tracks to release together on the one LP.

You may think "I've Just Seen a Face" is an excellent album opener, but the Beatles had earlier decided it was best suited as the fifth song on side two of Help!

In that regard the American versions of their UK albums, as well as the made-up LP's such as Yesterday and Today, are really akin to compilation albums such as Hey Jude or 1962-66 & 1967-70.

Also regarding the butcher cover, it may or may not be an urban legend, but the Beatles were reportedly dismayed with Capitol's treatment of their records.

Now what are you talking about?

The US version opens with "I've Just Seen a Face"

Travis just pointed that out!

"You Won't See Me" is track three -- same as the UK.

"Time after time you refuse to even listen"

That applies to you.

<If you'd like John Lennon to explain to you the butcher cover just ask me for the link.>

Alright, post the link and I'll check it out.

Dr Winston OBoogie: Two of McCartney's early classics. McCartney really was on fire in those early years, Yesterday being a prime example of his songwriting talent.. Up until I heard Yesterday (as a little boy of course) I listened to the red album constantly and it was mostly what I'd call pop music. Yesterday put The Beatles in a different league to the rest. It went from pop music to artistic brilliance. And I have all the Beatles albums on vinyl (Never play them because I don't own a record player!) and most of the 2009 remastered CD's but I think Ploppy's right on that one... I only listen to RS on my phone, when I'm out and about, I downloaded every single Beatles album from this chicks YouTube channel and I don't know which version I've got then because I assure you it opens with "You won't see me".

That interviewer was terrible!

He kept interrupting John and talked too much instead of just letting John speak.

In particular when discussing Capitol's butchering of the Beatles albums, John said at 1:15

"Especially in America coz we made only, say ten albums actually, but in America there seemed to be thirty of them, and so we would design a cover..."

And then the d*ckhead interviewer cut him off!?

John was probably going to explain how the butcher cover was designed to reflect their disgust at Capitol's butchering of their albums, but the stupid interviewer didn't let him continue!

Terrible interviewer!

Atrocious!

<Travis Bickle: An interesting note about the songs on Rubber Soul, You Won't See Me & I'm Looking Through You by McCartney are Paul's personal messages to Jane Asher his girlfriend who was making him miserable at the time with her career etc...>

Another notable song by Paul about Jane around that time is "We Can Work It Out".

Ultimately they couldn't.

Dr Winston OBoogie: I'll find the full interview, Ploppy. I know what you're saying the man would hardly him speak but he does talk about it more, in fact I've got a few interviews on the butchers cover and I'll upload them when I've got time. It's nothing to do with the way they felt about Capitol or any other record company, just a marketing ploy that went wrong in my opinion. I'd love to own one of the original vinyl records though! :)

That site, like I think most, is heavily weighted to those who have a faster link to their server.. I've played loads of games where I'm clicking/moving non stop yet my time is draining 2 secs a move when my opponent can "stand still" and make say 7 moves before the time drops .. It's just ridiculous ... I'm on virgin fast broadband too .. I contacted Virgin and they said it was my eqjuipment(processor) ect...

Well I just pretend I'm giving certain players (my equal) a mins heads up now for my own sanity on there lol lol

SF Giants Beatle day coming up !

Hope all ok with you and your family.
