chessgames.com: Is this Alexander Zakharov or a different Zakharov? And if it is a different player, what does the "A I" stand for? The rating of 2395 should help us narrow down the possibilities.

On a related subject there is also one A S Zakharov rated 2430.

Benzol: Jeremy Gaige lists 3 Zakharovs in Chess Personalia.

Alexander Vladimirovich Zakharov
born 7th October 1943.

Anatoly Zakharov who was awarded the IA title in 1983

and

Igor Nikolaevich Zakharov
born 24th October 1938 who was awarded the IMC title in 1971.

Don't really know if this is of much help, however.

Karpova: The games from the Senior WCC in 2008 are from Alexander Zakharov born 1943 - Nr. 13 on the following list: http://www.seniorenschach.de/Listen...

In the 2006 Senior WCC was also Alexander Zakharov: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...

Your Alexander Zakharov played in Voronezh 2005: M Brodsky vs A Zakharov, 2005 - that's the Alexander who was born in 1943 and he also played in the Senior WCC 2006: http://ratings.fide.com/tourarc.pht...

But I think that the whole Alexander Zakharov page is a mix up of different players. E. g. this game A Zakharov vs K Mokhova, 2001 is from <RUS-ch U16W 2001>

All the Alexander Zakharovs: http://ratings.fide.com/seek.phtml?...

SwitchingQuylthulg: The player with those U-14 games and such in Alexander Zakharov is very probably http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?... (IM Alexander S. Zakharov with a rating of 2437)

SwitchingQuylthulg: The game linked to by <Karpova> was played by WFM Alexandra Zakharova ... so that's (at least) 3 players with games under Alexander (Vladimirovich) Zakharov's name.

SwitchingQuylthulg: <And if it is a different player, what does the "A I" stand for?>

Apparently it stands for Alexander Ivanovich... only, Alexander Ivanovich and Alexander Vladimirovich appear to be the same preson, and I don't know which is real.

SwitchingQuylthulg: My guess would be that "Alexander V. (or Vladimirovich)" is wrong; googling for the original Cyrillic name only produces hits for Alexander Ivanovich. Russians ought to know, shouldn't they? :)

Tabanus: Alexander Sakharov, this must be the Alexander Zakharov born 1943.

Probably also Sacharov and Zacharov is this player.
