chessgames.com: Does anybody know if this player is the same as Adri de Groot? The names match, but the 50 year hiatus makes us think that perhaps it's a relative, or a coincidence.
Dec-07-04   sneaky pete: <chessgames.com> It's a coincidence, two different people, probably unrelated. Professor A.D. de Groot, born around 1910, is the author of "Het denken van de schaker" (translated as "Thought and choice in chess" if I'm not mistaken) who did research for this work (a dissertation) during the 1938 Avro tournament. His career as a competetive player (strong amateur) was very short. Adri de Groot is a contemporary correspondence player, born around 1950 or later.
