Aug-03-03   pawntificator: Cuter than Kosteniuk, eh? Well, it may be so, but there aren't enough good pictures of her to be certain! http://www.uschess.org/news/bio/kha...
Aug-12-03   Helloween: Trust me, she is way, way cuter than Kosteniuk!
Aug-12-03   Helloween: Check out http://www.worldopen.com/WorldOpen1... for a picture of Anna playing recent wavemaker Victor Bologan. It's a good thing he's a married man! Even so, notice how he fixates his eyes on the board intently, even though the game is not yet underway!
Aug-12-03   pawntificator: But does she wear sexy clothing and pose with a chessboard? gggggrowl!

PS For any ladies out there, though I somehow doubt there are many, I am not a sex crazed fiend. I swear. But to me it doesn't get much better than beautiful chess playing women. And beer. In fact, I would like to see Kosteniuk and Kahn playing a little mud-chess. Dang, I gave myself away. I bet people were convinced I wasn't a sex crazed fiend for a second.

Aug-12-03   pawntificator: Now I am going to redouble my efforts to attain grandmaster status! I need to play against these ladies!

Then again....you would have to fixate your eyes on the board I guess. Defeat is probably certain anyway, but at least you could give it the old college try. And maybe talk her into going out after the game!

<pawntificator pinches himself, wakes up> Dang it!

Aug-12-03   sleepkid: ...guys, I was just kidding. I mean, she IS cuter than Kosteniuk, but that's not really the point is it?

I think she works as an investment banker in Pennsylvania. . .anyway, that's the last I heard. Someone once said that the real lives of brilliant chessplayers are hopelessly dull.

Aug-12-03   Helloween: Let it be known that women like to be busy, which is why there are so few pulchritudinous women chess players of great skill. They simply choose not to sit around on their duffs for 10 hours a day studying and training, which is a required prerequisite for most to achieve a 2100+ status. Is this to be commended? Perhaps, as long as they can find some other endeavour to pursue, which they usually do, however, it is usually not so brilliant an endeavour as chess(especially if they're a beautiful woman, in which case it would be something easy, like modelling or waitressing. Even women choose the easy path rather than the narrow, taxing path of the successful chess player).
Aug-14-03   sleepkid: way to go chessgames. . . got a picture of her online, but only 5 games in the database. lol.

now who's sexist?

go find some of her games for cryin' out loud!

lol.

Aug-14-03   sleepkid: Wait. . . I just figured out what the problem is. There are more of her games in the database here, but they are under the recent change to the spelling of her last name.

Anna Khan changed her last named to Hahn about 2 years ago to keep it more in line with the original Indian pronunciation of the name. (It's true that she is from Latvia, but her family is partially of Indian background.)

Perhaps chessgames.com can link the Anna Hahn and Khan pages together, but still allow users to access them from both spellings?

Aug-14-03   sleepkid: Looks like they did it. Way to go guys...
Aug-14-03   Benjamin Lau: <sleepkid>

How come you know so much about her anyway? ;-)

Aug-14-03   sleepkid: I read an article on her after she won some tournament a year or two ago.
Aug-15-03   Vagabond: Anna Hahn can mate me any day. Growl.
Aug-16-03   sleepkid: ...that was stupid.
Aug-17-03   pawntificator: That was funny! ah ha ha!
Aug-22-03   Vagabond: stupid? Or.......Awesome?
Aug-22-03   Shadout Mapes: Oh! He's got you there, sleepkid!

MichaelJHuman: An article claims she likes kickboxing. Don't mess with her on or off the board :)

She won the 2003 AF4C Women's championship; she was considered an under dog. She was born in Rgia. I wonder if Tal is her hero?

Nov-06-03   Diggitydawg: Jeez guys, the comments on this page are a little embarrassing, although I'm guilty of it too (post on the Kosteniuk page). I'd like to point out that Hahn won the US championship 2003 in Seattle in January after a three-way playoff among her, Jennifer Shahade, and Irina Krush. Her result against Krush indicates to me that her elo is lower than her true playing strength.

If what this link says is true, my respect for Susan Polgar has suddenly plummeted. I can't believe what kind of a deal she would pull... And now she is threatening to sue the USCF for not honoring a shady deal that completely broke the rules??? Hahn deserves the place, she won it fair and square. If the USCF doesn't think she deserves her place on the olympiad merely because her rating is too low, we might as well decide everything by rating. Why have an olympiad at all? Why don't we just declare the country with the highest average ELO the winner right off the bat? Nuts.

tamar: Hahn should be given a spot, if that was the understanding at the time. That said, this controversy highlights the inequities of choosing a woman's champion without considering quality of opposition. Without minimizing Hahn's achievement in winning the 15 minute play-off games against Krush and Shahade, she scored an equal number of points in an essentially different tournament than those two. Because she did poorly at the start, her average opponent rating was a very low 2280. Shahade was essentially playing in the men's competition, with an monster average rating of 2466, even much higher than Krush's average opponent of 2386. Wouldn't it be clear that Shahade's achievement in chess terms was better than Krush's or Hahn's?

Apr-26-04   shr0pshire: I support Anna Hahn on this fully.
She earned her spot fair and square, this not only cheapens the US championship, but is a large blow to Hahn. I am saddened to be apart of an organization that can do this to anyone, let alone a US Champion.

Here is another link with similar info....

Joshka: Allright, at the time of the Championships in 2003, was it assumed that the winner would automatically be given a spot on the Olympic team? Was there a precedent? If so....Anna really deserves justice, what an outcry!
