Nov-26-08    nescio: It's too bad really. Anne Haast had some decent results recently, but the past week in Wijk aan Zee her opponents seem to much for her: http://www.ssij.nl/indexcvt2008.html I know the feeling. Playing against masters and grandmasters give you a sense of helplessness similar to cycling against a too strong headwind. Her game of today shows clearly how demoralized she is after 7 (now 8) losses in a row: Ikonnikov-Haast, Wijk aan Zee Culural Village 2008: 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 g6 3.c4 Bg7 4.g3 0-0 5.Bg2 d6 6.Nc3 Nbd7 7.0-0 e5 8.Qc2 c6 9.Rd1 Re8 10.e4 exd4 11.Nxd4 Qe7 12.Bf4 Ne5 13.b3 Nfd7 14.h3 h5 15.Rd2 Nc5 16.Be3 a5 17.Rad1 Ned7 18.Nde2 Nf6 19.f3 click for larger view 19...Rd8 20.Bxc5 1-0 She'll get over it, but it will take a while to forget this tournament.
