GM sambuev

Mar-29-09   dumbgai: <Mary McCooeye, president of the Simcoe County Chess Club described having Sambuev at the chess camp like having “Steve Nash come to your basketball camp.”>

That's utterly ridiculous. Steve Nash is one of the top 5 point guards in the world. Sambuev's world ranking is #859.

Mar-30-09   Hugh the Drover: If there are about 170 countries, then Sambuev's being 859th in the world averages out to a top five amidst all countries, or at least in any given country. He should stay on the incline, while Steve Nash has over a decade in the NBA.
Mar-30-09   dumbgai: Right, because only one country in the world plays basketball right? You're smart.

winning the sheerbrooke tourney!

GM sambuev is making the most of his professional chess life in canada!

Sep-14-09   Layson: Quite an anti-climatic moment at the Montreal Open this week-end. During the fourth round, Sambuev, with a perfect score, played against IM Jean Hebert in a game that in all likelihood would decide the winner of the tournament.

The result? Death by cell phone on move 10, leaving a room full of disappointed spectators.

timhortons: My weekend night job make me too tired to be around the tournament site all the time.

hello <layson>, did you witness it? did the indefatigable tournament director mr bernard ouimet call the foul and take point away from bator sambuev?

i was around during the opening ceremony, i even got a chance to take the photo of IM jean herbert and saw in person the pretty WGM salome melia.

GM bator sambuev just not lucky, in quebec open chess championship i think hes the one who raised the issue against GM kasparov.CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG:)

Sep-14-09   Layson: Yes I was there. GM Sambuev was late for his game, and arrived at the tournament site in a rush. This is presumably the reason why he didn't take the time to double-check that his cell phone was off.

I was under the impression the Jean Hebert was willing to play on, as in a renewed quest to become a GM, he could most definitely use a few more top-level games. But the tournament director was strict on the rule.

Sambuev afterwards forfeited the tournement, which was the rather sad rule of thumb for the tournament. Top seeds Sambuev, Lawson, Schleiffer and Castellanos all withdrew from the tournament following upsetting losses.

wow! i feel bad for IM castillanos.

IM noritsyn didnt do well also.

cheers to mr ouimet for upholding the rules! i remember him at TIM, where before the game start hes advising the GM,s and spectator to turn there cellular off.

<layson> are you familiar with these boy Jiang, Louie F.? his a fide master and last tourneo de montreal, me and him set side by side observing naiditsch and bacrot, amazing coz among the juniors hes present every afternoon just to watch the chess bigtimes play there games.

Jiang, Louie F. maybe is 12 year old, maybe 14, he finished 3rd, just below IM hebert and WGM melia.

I WISH THIS BOY ALL THE BEST IN HIS CAREER!

GM Bator Sambuev lost his 4th round game of the Montreal Open to IM Jean Hébert on move 9, when his cellphone rang.
