Karpova: <jamesmaskell> the link shows a photo of Batchimeg Tuvshintugs. Here's a photo of Cammila after her win over Nakamura: http://www.chessbase.com/news/2006/...
Mar-06-06   jamesmaskell: Sorry, I was on a page which had her photo. For some strange reason it didnt have the right one there. Better check in future.
Mar-06-06   Jim Bartle: Now I know she's a (chess) teacher. The look on her face, and those glasses riding low on her nose, prove it.

Karpova: yes, and the way she taught Nakamura a lesson
Mar-06-06   Jim Bartle: Right, forgot that part. She might have scared him with that "disapproving teacher" look over her specs.

Karpova: Nakamura might be one of those guys falling in love with their teachers and this just affected his concentration on the game
Mar-06-06   jamesmaskell: Nakamura made the mistake of throwing his queen out early to disrupt the queenside. It might work on the chessforums but in tournament play he needs to be more methodical about it. Otherwise he will be known for his early queen attacks and nothing else which is a shame.

Eric Schiller: <jamesmaskell> That's ancient thinking that doesn't apply anymore. There are many, many openings involving early queen moves. Bringing outthe queen early is not necessarily bad, and is often essential. Don't forget that Camilla brought her queen out first and it was her queen who was kicked around in the opening, not Hikaru's.

BishopBerkeley: Ms. Baginskaite teaches a free class for women on Sundays at the Mechanics Institute Chess Club of San Francisco:

http://www.chessclub.org/Women.html

This wonderful club is right near the Montgomery Street BART station, for those familiar with that noteworthy rapid transit system. (Since parking is pretty scarce in downtown San Francisco, this is a very helpful alternative.)

Sep-07-07   Darth Lasker: Many years ago...

In "Ceskoslovensky Sach" 9/1986 there was an article about some European girls cup in Vilnius. Ildiko Madl dominated, Camilla came 2nd. The game Madl vs Baginkaite was kinda sharp: Camilla sacrificed three pawns and got dangerous attack, then she even offered her knight, but Ildiko denied, and rather sacrificed an exchange by herself. Otherwise she would have got mate. The game ended in perpetual repetition and draw. I did respect for Camilla then, she has nerves made from steel.

There was also a photo of this game, Ildiko poking at her nose and mysterious Camilla with long black hair thinking...

Several years later one night i was reading a horror novel by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu "Carmilla" and i imaginated her as Baginskaite. I got mortal tremble. :o)
