May-25-05   soberknight: He's a Chen Fan.
I'm a Red Sox fan.
cu8sfan is a Cubs Fan.
May-25-05   aw1988: No, you're a pun fan. Shut up.
May-25-05   WorldChampeen: Well, we all know words in other languages, some become part of the English lexicon...maybe even some Chinese words and I saw <wannabe> said he spoke Mandarin Chinese. Because my specialty is foreign languages I love the study, know bits of Mandarin Chinese. Cha is Tea and look how there is even Chai Tea which is probably related even if Chai seems to have something to do with India.

Maybe Caviar is a Russian word, I don't know.

I agree with aw1988 here. For the record and <wannabe> can help us out, I think Fan is also the word for that staple of the Far Eastern Diet; Rice (or it's the word for soup, now we are talking about common foods). However, I wish to show all the utmost respect in all this so as I said a speaker would be welcome and certainly I may be in error on matters such as proper accents, pronunciation and all.

I've loved some of my Chinese friends, I'm going to keep all things to the proper subject but they introduced me to Buddhism, etc. In Northern California, there is honestly the City of 10,000 Buddhas, set up by a Venerable Chinese Monk ( http://www.drba.org/branches/cttb/ and now I apologize if that is off topic.) I see these local Chinese kids at every tournament and I always wish them the best!

WannaBe: <WorldChampeen> Trying to see how i can post this pronounciation...

Rice is pronounced (in Mandarin) as a cross between fan/fine. Almost as if you were going to pronounce famine, but cut it off at fam.
