Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-04-06   cuendillar: He's about to gain almost 77 points from the Olympiad and, unless I'm mistaken, a GM-norm as well.
Jun-04-06   Dionyseus: Incredible 2608 rating performance at the Olympiad, and from what I hear he is from Venezuela and is under 16!

veigaman: He is a very talented player without theorical preparation because of the lack of chess tradition in Venezuela. He has a natural talent to attack and also to play endgames.

His games against collins was great

percyblakeney: Iturrizaga (2232) played 6 opponents rated higher than 2400 in the Olympiad. Against Lputian (2619) he lost a long endgame, and drew against Markus (2585). Agdestein (2594) and the remaining three 2400+ opponents were all defeated. A short article in Spanish on Iturrizaga:

veigaman: Iturrizaga has already qualified to the world chesschampionship cycle after beating boris gulko with black pieces in the last round. He finished the tournament with the same amount the points that: julio granda, akobian, ivanov, dercy lima.

He has the 3 GM since a year ago but he has not had the sponsorship to play international event to reach the 2500 points to gain the GM title.

veigaman: Finally, he got GM title after his perfomance in calvia (he had 7 GMs norms before the tournament but he needed the points).

The first venezuelan player in reaching the GM title and he will be taking part in the world cup! Great new for venezuelan chess!

Oct-25-07   Kaspablanca: I live in Dominican Republic and i see him play when he came to Santo Domingo in the zonal 2.3 tournament. He was the only one who manage to draw the Cubans Dominguez and Bruzon.
Jan-27-08   Larsker: Cool name :-)

veigaman: It should be 2540 in the next fide rating, the first venezuelan GM.

Mar-07-08   nomaster: He'll gain even more ELO ranking after the Iberoamericano. Depending on his result against Granda tomorrow, between 31 and 41 plus points. He may even be cut short of some of his achievements since there's a 100 point-per-term limit rule in use.
