International Master and Woman Grandmaster Elena Sedina was born in Kiev and learned the rules of chess at the age of 7. She was awarded the WIM title in 1991, the WGM title in 1996 and the IM title in 1998. She moved to Italy in 1995 and palys for the Italian Chess Federation since April 2001.

In 2005 she was the first woman ever to win the Australian Open Championship. Sedina was Italian women's champion in 2019 and 2021.

it's a great success for sedina. i didn't talk about female chessplayers in general.

Dec-17-14  waustad: She plays in many team events. I was wondering if she had moved to Germany because of her presence in the FBL, but she also plays in leagues in several other countries. I have no idea where she actually lives. It seems to have little to do with one's official nationality in chess terms.
