Happy Birthday!

Jul-02-09  whiteshark: <LoverLover> Welcome and great first post, but what is ICC?
Feb-05-10  hedgeh0g: This dude is a chess player! And by "player", I mean a ladies' man!
May-07-10  wordfunph: any news to this once famous German GM? i remember him as one of the most-feared GMs in 1980s..

Trivia: After losing to German GM Eric Lobron in the last round, GM Semen Dvoirys kneeled and pound his head three times on the floor with great force.

i forgot where i got this info...anyone who could validate the story please?

May-07-10  BobCrisp: <Trivia: After losing to German GM Eric Lobron in the last round, GM Semen Dvoirys kneeled and pound his head three times on the floor with great force.>

Just to clarify, whose head?

May-07-10  wordfunph: <Bob> Semen.
May-07-10  whiteshark: Gesundheit und Zufriedenheit,

Happy XXXXX. B-Day

May-07-10  reti: Happy birthday Eric, and good luck with Carmen!
Jul-11-10  asianmonkey147: this is nice.

May-07-11  lost in space: I played once in the early 1980ties against him in a simul. He won nearly all games - also against me - I blundered away a pawn, was not able to hide it as a sac - I was not getting any initiative for the pawn.

This was the opening: Opening Explorer

We were both young and looking good at that time. At least in my case only the "and" remained.

Happy Birthday, Eric

May-07-11  TheTamale: You look pretty good for your age, Eric. Lose the baseball hat!

May-07-11  I play the Fred: Derrick Rose may have won the MVP, but Lobron is the NBA's best.
Jun-17-11  Antiochus: Although looks logic, I loved this quenn sac E Lobron vs P Sjodahl, 1994
May-07-12  wordfunph: <32nd Rilton Cup in Stockholm:

New Year celebrations took its usual toll, GM Eric Lobron fell down the stairs on his way out of a party and sported a fine black eye and swollen hand for the rest of the event.>

happy birthday, GM Lobron!

May-07-14  lakers4sho: Kevin Durant wins MVP, is he officially better than Lobron?
May-07-14  SugarDom: See you in the finals. BTW, how's your team doing?

perfidious: Fun memory from the past: was at the Grand Prix in New York in June 1994 and played blitz with a Lobron lookalike, beating him 4-0. Though there many GMs about that day, no chance it was the man himself; I have beaten GMs in blitz, but could never imagine taking four straight from any of them.

HeMateMe: Perf, you ever play in that big tournament that used to be in Philly, The World Open?

perfidious: <HMM>, never had time to get into the main event; after the visit mentioned above, I headed to Philly to play a couple side events on the way to Virginia. In one of those, I got whacked by Dlugy and booked a win vs the strong master Al Chow in the money round--one of the rare times I was mentioned in Chess Life.
