Aug-10-05   Runemaster: I like Eliskases' style - I think he's certainly an under-appreciated player.

LIFE Master AJ: I remember - it was a few years ago - I was chatting with another player on the net. The name "Eliskases" came up, and at least one person referred to him as a fish. (Either he was joking, or did not really know who this player was.)

He was actually a fairly strong player. At one time his name was being tossed about as a possible WCS contender, but no funding was ever raised for a match.

He is also another player, (like KERES); who was severely affected by WWII, he was stranded in South America at the beginning of that conflict. (See http://www.maskeret.com/cgi-bin/wiw...)

Oct-01-05   Eastfrisian: Erich Eliskases died on February 21, 1997 in Cordoba.

His best result may have been 1938 Nordwijk, when he won ahead of Keres, Pirc, Euwe, Bogolyubov, Landay and others.

He was a specialist in endgames (for example see games 127 and 163).

Benzol: <Eastfrisian> You should e-mail <chessgames.com> and ask about having yourself put on the Administrative Player Editor list. You could then fill in biograhic details about the players you know about.
Oct-02-05   Eastfrisian: <Benzol> Thank you for that, but I'm on the standpoint, if chessgames.com should need me and my knowledge, they should write themselves. I will hold back myself, because I don't feel that I'm a historian of chess.

On the other side, someone may think about me, that I always and ever want to give my more or less "big knowledge" in the hope, to stand in the "centre of admiration". That is not what I wont. So I think I should shorten bei kibitzing in this point - and Kibitzer's Cafe is not my style.

Dec-31-05   LancelotduLac: His record includes wins over three world champions (though none were reigning champions at the time): Capablanca, Euwe (twice), and Fischer. He was 50% against each of them. His win over Capablanca is a masterpiece and should be included among his "notable games" at the top of this page.
Dec-31-05   notsodeepthought: My favorite Eliskases game remains Spielmann vs Eliskases, 1932, in which he deliberately allowed his queen to be trapped and launched a decisive counterattack.

Sep-16-06   Poulsen: Hey, an important games is missing from this database: Eliskases-Höelzl, Austria, 1931.

It's the game with one of the most powerfull "endzuge" in the history of chess: White plays Rc5-d5!! - and even though black can take it with 4 different pieces, he is totally lost.

The position is easily found on the net, but what of the entire game?

Anyone?
