IMlday: In the 1960's Vasiukov was a very interesting and instructive player. For speed chess his 1.e4 repertoire was open and useful.

IMlday: An early tournament pamphlet I acquired (second hand) was the Lasker Memorial, East Berlin, 1962. Vasiukov and Stein completely dominated. None of V's games from there seem to have made the CG database.
Nov-15-05   WMD: Thanks in advance for submitting them.

IMlday: WMD, that's 43 years ago. You got any 90c cheap newsprint bulletins from 1962? I do recall that both Stein and Vasyukov were playing 1.e4 e6 2.d3, and that I, 13, was plenty impressed.

".. Since Vasiukov never placed near the top in Soviet Zonal competition, he was unable to earn an opportunity to play in an Interzonal tournament, where he might have done well in the mixed-strength fields featured there, as he excelled in similar circumstances in regular International tournaments. .."
