EVGENY ROMANOV
(born Feb-14-1988) Russia

[what is this?]
Grandmaster, World U10 champion 1998, European U12/U14 champion 2000 and 2002. Romanov's three IM norms came from his results at the Aeroflot Open B in 2003, the Serpukhov International A in Russia in 2004 (where he also gained his first GM norm), and the Serpukhov International Tournament in 2005. His remaining GM norms arose from his results at the 2nd Arkhipov Memorial GM tournament in Russia in 2007 and in the Higher League Russian Championship later that year. He took 3rd place in the Kristiansund Grand Prix in Norway in August 2010.

Romanov's results at the 12th European Individual Championship (2011) qualified him for the World Cup (2011), where he was eliminated in the first round by fellow Russian GM Boris Grachev. His =1st (3rd on tiebreak) at the European Individual Championships (2013) qualify him to play in the 2013 World Cup.

Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-20-07  pawnofdoom: He's another one of the rising youngesters. He had a pretty good performance at the Junior champs this year, if I remember correctly. He's going to get to 2600 pretty soon, I guess.

The more so if someone called Yurovsky comes round, I should think, not to mention anyone by the surname of Ulyanov.
