| Swapmeet: "New Rule: You don't have to teach both sides of a debate, if one side is a load of crap." -Bill Maher, on evolution vs creationism. I think it applies here too though.

| cu8sfan: <Swapmeet> Good one! Here's a third side to the evolution vs. creationism debate: http://www.venganza.org/ (-: Please anyone, just read it and then either laugh, cry or get steamed up, what have you but don't start a debate that might end in a holy war... |

| Resignation Trap: Kansas, eh? This doesn't surprise me any. Living there, it would also be easy to believe that the world is flat. It has been said that, if you step on a tuna fish can in Kansas, you can see the back of your own head. |

| Robin01: <Resignation Trap> I do not understand this. Can you explain:<if you step on a tuna fish can in Kansas, you can see the back of your own head.> |
 |
| Sep-01-05 |
| aw1988: He just said it, read the first part of this: <Living there, it would also be easy to believe that the world is flat. It has been said that, if you step on a tuna fish can in Kansas, you can see the back of your own head.> |

| Swapmeet: <cu8sfan> Too funny, I think they've made a convert out of me. Now all that remains is to be baptised in a giant vat of marinara sauce. |

| s4life: csmath<The point is when people play open tournaments they usually play chess, they don't try to arrange 3-move draw before the game.> You are wrong. People in opens (those who think they have a shot at winning it), go there to WIN the tournament... you need a strategy for that. They all tend to draw (implicitly, there is not even arrangement) if both players think a draw is a good enough result. What's new about that? |
 |
| Sep-03-05 |
| s4life: Oops I didn't read the whole thread, before posting. It seems <iron maiden> already discussed and clarified this issue in detail. <csmath> you may have your opinion, but I think you have no right to badmouth chess GM's like that, just because they are doing what is best for them.
Read this article about the 'no draw' rule whose ethics is basically what we are discussing in here.
http://www.mrfixitonline.com/readTo... Perhaps it's going to help you understand the other side of the argument better Axel |

| ConLaMismaMano: Gastón is currently expected to gain 139 ELO points putting him at 2381. He will probably hit 2400 before the next rating list is published (the Argentinian championship is still to be counted). Yesterday Needleman gave himself another smile by being the only argentinian player (from 6; including the new argentinian champion IM Diego Flores 2513) to beat ex World Champion Anatoly Karpov in a simultaneous exhibition during his visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina. |

| you vs yourself: <cu8sfan> That article about the Flying Spaghetti Monster was simply hilarious! |
 |

| ConLaMismaMano: Time controls:
-Karpov 135 min. for first 40 moves + 30 min to finish. -Other 6 players 105 min. for first 40 moves + 30 min. to finish. Apparently Karpov sayed "Ok", extended his hand to Needleman and walked away in anger after his loss. Anatoly didn't attend at the closing ceremony but a while after he came back and apologized. |

| vampiero: the point of the spaghetti article was to critisize the catholic church, saying that "He" created everythign we touch and feel and that they have "overwhelming proof" of this. its obviously just a ironic critique of everything that creationistsa are claiming. |
 |
| Oct-27-05 |
| ChessMan94: Karpov lost a game against Needleman... so what? Karpov should have felt like Capablanca who said something along the lines of: "When I lose a game it is like a millionaire giving a penny to a bum on the streets". |
