TheAlchemist: Iolo? Cerredig? Are those common names in Wales?
Aug-11-05  offramp: Iolo is short for Iorwerth, which means 'handsome lord', and Cerredig is probably one of the many variants of Caractacus - the tribal chief who rebelled against the Romans.

Handsome Lord Caractacus Jones.

Aug-11-05  Anatooly Homedepotov: "Jones" kind of spoils the exotic beauty of the name for me.

TheAlchemist: <offramp> Thanks. I love Welsh names because of their uniqueness, like these geographical: Llandudn, Ffestiniog, Clwyd, Ystwyth, etc.

  whiteshark:

He is notable as the co-author of the only Welsh language chess manual, <A chwaraei di wyddbwyll?>, which he wrote with his father, T. Llew Jones.

Jones has competed at 14 consecutive Chess Olympiads between 1972 and 1998. He won a gold medal for his performance at the Olympiad Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, in 1990

owenll: The proper spelling of his name is Iolo Ceredig Jones - it is misspelt on many online chess resources. Ceredig (5th century) was a son of Cunedda, and the county Ceredigion is named after him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceredig

GrahamClayton: Jones made his comeback to the Welsh Olympiad team in 2010, and narrowly missed gaining his FM title. He worked hard - his average number of moves made for each game was 71.

perfidious: To see Jones' bio with the title 'Candidate Master' is something of a bad joke, for he was a player who may well have made IM in his best days.
