Nov-25-08   17.Bxg7: Jaime had an excellent showing in the Olympiad. He played all eleven rounds as Colombia's #1 board and faced eight higher rated opponents, only losing to Peter Leko), getting a 2679 TPR and his third and definite GM norm. Congratulations GM Jaime Cuartas!

http://chess-results.info/tnr16314....

By the way, Medusa's information this player Colombian GMs is completely wrong. Colombia has had only three GMs:

1) Alonso Zapata , who got his title in 1984 and most people in this server know him because of this game (but has had much better performances):

A Zapata vs Anand, 1988

2) Gildardo Garcia (got his GM title in 1991):

2) Jaime Cuartas, who has gotten his third GM norm in the 2008 Olympiad and will be awarded the GM title.

Some people actually get confused about Alexis Cabrera because he was registered with the Colombian Federeation, bu he was born in Cuba and now he plays for the Spanish Federation right now, so he doesn't classify as "Colombian GM"

Perhaps someone else would like to play out a possible continuation. I don't know whether white lost on time here or whether black has a strong position or not.
