Oct-10-07   samsal27: <alexmagnus> I think that it could be a combination of both factors you mentioned.

norami: Miss Lahno is rated no higher than she was four years ago, but I noticed Koneru Humpy also went four years as a teenager without rating improvement. Maybe there's something about teenage girls.
Oct-14-07   samsal27: <norami> If Katya's last performance is any indication, her rating will soon start to rise. She was 4.5/7 in the Club Championship with a performance rating of 2556.

alexmagnus: Her performance after 5 rounds in ETCC is 2460 with a strange result list - one win and four draws...

alexmagnus: How long can it go??? Skripchenko-Lahno:

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.c3 Nf6 5.d3 d6 6.Bb3 a6 7.Nbd2 0-0 8.Nf1 1/2-1/2.

What happened with Katy? Not only that it is her seventh draw in a row - it's a quick draw - not often I saw this "phenomenon" in her games...

alexmagnus: Not only that - it seems to be the only game with one-digit number of moves in her career.
Nov-05-07   Phoenix: I think it is team tactics, and that it has probably been decided by the coach. I've noticed that when you have a strong women's team, if you can secure a draw with the other team's highest rated player, you should be the heavy favorites on the other boards. Unfortunetly for Ukraine, they've had some troubles on boards 3 & 4.

This doesn't happen just with women's teams either- take, for example, the Olympiad: often if you have a team like Russia, avr 2700 on all boards, playing a team like England, who has Adams 2700 and Short 2600 and two 2500s, you'll typically see fast draws on the top 2 boards and an easy sweep on the bottom two boards.

This kind of thing makes team events a bit unattractive.

alexmagnus: Yes, but SEVEN draws in a row....
Nov-05-07   samsal27: <alexmagnus> Perhaps Katya is tired and just wants to rest awhile?
Nov-06-07   Phoenix: Or maybe the quick draw was to rest up for a potential game with Russia. If so, it worked.

alexmagnus: Today Kateryna lost. The final position if of course lost, but I'd play a couple of moves to see -I saw already many good players not managing a Q vs R win in 50 moves. The position Kateryna resigned in was a mate in 25...

paulalbert: She finished well at Moscow, but this loss prevented her from having a shot at the top with her former colleague Anna Muzychuk ( now playing for Slovenia ) on a real roll for this tournament. Anna Ushenina also seems to be pulling slightly ahead of Lahno as the top Ukrainian woman player. Paul Albert

Well, black's position is messy but is it really resignable? This looks to be the most mysterious win to come into my "Lahno's winning miniatures" collection:)

paulalbert: As I mentioned at another game, the official site continuously got stuck in the middle of the games, so don't put it into the miniatures until you can see the real score! Paul Albert
May-01-08   Ichiro: She is a sole leader in EICC after 10R. Will she be European Champion again?
May-02-08   Phoenix: And she is, congratulations to her!

Also, she made me 1,134 chessbucks richer ;-)

May-02-08   hitman84: She looks a bit like the famous Ukrainian singer Anna Sedokova.
