Oct-01-07   Capatin17: Leinier has a 2683 ELO is it the highest rating for a player born in this side of the world since Fischer?

Caissanist: I believe it is, but others (Mecking, Granda) have been ranked higher.
Oct-16-07   Capatin17: Thx Caissanist would you happen to remeber in what possiting did Granda and Mecking got in the world rankings?

Caissanist: It's easy to forget just how strong Mecking was before he got sick. On the January 1977 list he was ranked fourth--a legitimate world championship contender at age 24: http://mychess.blogspot.com/2007/03....

Granda was never that high, but he was ranked in the 20s during the early nineties.

Oct-17-07   Capatin17: I think in 2005 Bruzon got to # 26 in the World

whiteshark: <Captain17+4> I think I was a GM in 2005, too. So what? Please change you avatar!
Oct-27-07   AlbertoDominguez: Caissanist, thanks for the link.

Actually, in the 1978 list Mecking was actually tied for 3rd with Spassky and Portisch.

Kapablanca: Lenier is already a 2700 + player right now.

Go ahead and good luck, boy.

Nov-28-07   SickedChess: <cg> still no bio for this strong player? http://gmdominguez.com/
Nov-29-07   mindanalyzer: Dominguez's current ELO is 2683 although I read that he might come out +2700 in the next fide report. He plays carlsen tomorrow, I just hope he beats him.
Nov-30-07   ChessVip: This guy is the best from Latin America!
Nov-30-07   HrodHerich: He's not going to beat Carlsen. Carlsen is playing extremely solid chess at the moment.
Nov-30-07   cotdt: <HrodHerich: He's not going to beat Carlsen. Carlsen is playing extremely solid chess at the moment.> Carlsen almost lost against Dominguez-Perez today, but under time trouble he played inferior moves which allowed Carlsen to draw. So I disagree with your comment.
Nov-30-07   HrodHerich: Time controls are part of chess, deal with it.
Dec-01-07   ChessVip: Dominguez is out! :( he lost against Magnus, Lenierīs queen was trapped!
Feb-04-08   Capatin17: When is Leinier next tournament?
Feb-26-08   Capatin17: I ask him on ICC when was his next tournament he said it was Capablanca Memorial in may.

Augalv: Best ELO in Cuban History: GM Leinier Dominguez

Cuban Grand Master Leinier Dominguez appears ranked 25 in the FIDE top 100 players list for July 2008, with 2,708 ELO points, the first Cuban player to exceed 2,700.

Dominguez is among the 29 players worldwide who possess ELO ratings above 2,700. The Cuban GM is also the highest ranked Latin American chess player, and placed second in the American Continent, only behind US nationalized Gata Kamsky, 17th with 2,723 ELO points.

Dominguez moved up one step (in April he was in 26th place with 2,695), with excellent performances in recent tournaments in Havana and Sarajevo.

The top ten players in order are Indian Viswanathan Anand (IND 2,798), Russians Alexander Morozevich (RUS 2,788) and Vladimir Kramnik (2,788), Ukranian Vassily Ivanchuk (2,781), Vesselin Topalov (BUL 2,777), and eighteen year-old Magnus Carlsen (NOR 2,775), the youngest man on the list.

Azerbaijani Teimour Radjabov (2,744) and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (2,742) follow in seventh and eight positions respectively, followed by Spaniard Alexei Shirov (2,741) and Hungarian Peter Leko (2,741).
