  Sneaky: That's quite a monicker.
Nov-19-07   King mega: Haha, The malaysian GM!
Feb-25-08   papynchase: Actually it's supposed to be just Mas Hafizulhelmi. A friend of mine who used to be his classmate told me that Agus is the name of his father. It's quite common in Malaysia to write their father's name at the back. But it's always perceived as their surnames thus the "moniker".

He was already an IM in his teens but his pursuit of the GM title (King Mega: not yet a GM) took a backstep because of study and work commitments. Chess is not considered a fancy field to make one's ends meet at this part of the world.

Lately he has a renewed enthusiasm in chess. There was an article in a daily here about his quest for the GM title.

In the Olympiad in Turin he helped Malaysia to one of its best placing ever while beating notables like Viktor Korchnoj and Pascal Charbonneau (Pascal beat Anand a few games later).

Aug-14-09   Abdooss: Ok.. it seems <CG> has merged H Mas & Agus Mas Hafizulhelmi Abdul Rahman's double accounts..
