Jul-18-05  mack: Former Countdown finalist.
Jul-18-05  WMD: He certainly proved better at rearranging letters than Jim Plaskett.
Jul-18-05  mack: I can see a games collection coming on here - chess players who have been on TV gameshows. Plaskett, Turner, Hartston, Dlugt, Thurlow, um... and all the rest of them.
Jul-18-05  mack: Dlugy*
Jul-18-09  BoardLord: GM Turner became third in Arctic Chess Challenge 2008 and will participate in the 2009 edition in Tromsų, Norway as well. In connection with this I have written a profile of him that you can read at my blog Sjakkfantomet. It's in English.

Dec-11-10  BobCrisp: <Postscript on the theme of overheard conversations

At the recent, and last, <Lloyds Bank Masters>, I achieved my final IM norm and, having scored 2/4 against GM opposition, was well satisfied with my performance. The following conversation took place between GMs Mark Hebden and Patrick Wolff.

<Hebden>: "Who've you just played?"

<Wolff>: "Somebody called Turner."

<Hebden>: "Oh, you played Matthew...he doesn't know much theory but can be tricky in the middle game."

<Wolff>: "It's interesting you should say that."

<Hebden>: "Why?"

<Wolff>: "His opening was CRAP!!"

At least I know where I stand in the grand order of things.>
