May-18-08   Zygalski: This guy really knows how to win with the Morra gambit. A shame more of his Morra games aren't on here.

  hitman84: <Zygalski>I second that. He is just too good. Look at the way he thrashes IMs and GMs with the Morra - UNBELIEVABLE!

  hitman84: He is an FM from Croatia.

You can find more of his Morra Gambit games here:

Jun-28-08   Zygalski: His record there with the Morra is
P=58
W=22
L=24
D=12
But doing a quick calculation, the average Elo of his opponents for the losses is 2460 - around 200 points higher than Zelic's own rating. In other words, here you have a reasonably strong FIDE Master testing the gambit against strong opposition and more than holding his own.

  hitman84: Yeah I've always thought that Morra is a playable opening at the GM level. But you need sound endgame knowledge. Most of the time you're bound to reach an ending a pawn down. Take a look at his losses -- many are well over 60 moves.
Jun-28-08   Zygalski: GM Afromeev has probably the best record with the Morra http://www.365chess.com/search_resu...
Jul-01-08   Zygalski: Zelic is playing very well at the moment, virtually certain to increase his highest FIDE rating of 2316. Must be all those Morra's :)
