Dec-12-05    Resignation Trap: Nicolai Jasnogrodsky was born in Lubny (present-day Ukraine) on August 17, 1859 (modern-day calendar). He was one of the best American players in the 1890's, and was an early influence on the young Frank James Marshall . He was the New York state champion in 1896. There is a variation of the King's Gambit which bears his name: 1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Nf3 g5 4.h4 g4 5.Ne5 Nf6 6.Bc4 d5 7.exd5 Bd6 8.0-0 Bxe5 9.Re1 Qe7 10.c3 Nh5. Jasnogrodsky died in New York on April 23, 1914.
