Nikola Bochev Padevsky was born on the 29th of May 1933 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Awarded the IM title in 1957 and the GM title in 1964 he has been Bulgarian Champion in 1954, 1955, 1962 and 1964 (after play-off). He won the Rubinstein Memorial in 1963.

He scored 10.5/15 (+7 -1 =7) and won 1.0 point ahead of Moshe Czerniak and 1.5 points ahead of Matulovic.
