Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-21-05   Eastfrisian: He had a doctorate of medicine degree and was professor of medicine. Naegeli played on 4 Olympiades for the Swiss team.

His best results were Venice (third place joint) and Bern (first place joint with Alekhine and Voellmy, but only four participiants). Not very successful, but his job might be more important for him.

Jan-11-06   Daodejing: Oskar Naegeli was the son of the physician Otto Naegeli (1843-1922) and the brother of the haematologist Otto Naegeli (1871-1938). He studied at Geneva, Zurich, Munich, and Heidelberg, obtaining his medical doctorate at Zurich in 1909. He worked in Freiburg im Breisgau at the pathological institute under Karl Albert Ludwig Aschoff (1866-1942) and in the medical policlinic under Paul Oskar Morawitz (1879-1936), later at the Zurich medical policlinic and at the university dermatological clinic at Bern. He was habilitated for dermatology and venereology at Bern, becoming ausserordentlicher Professor in 1917 and director of the university dermatological clinic. His work concerns immunity research in dermatology and syphilology.

Naegeli's syndrome

Syndrome characterized by reticular skin changes, dental anomalies, disturbance of temperature regulation due to diminished function of the sweat glands, hyperkeratosis palmaris and plantaris, nystagmus, strabismus, and optic atrophy.
