Phony Benoni: According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_... Lee gave up chess because he contracted mumps. There is no source given for this information, nor is it clear whether chess was responsible for his contracting the illness.

ray keene: <pb> i think his very young daughter in 1972 was a more plausible culprit-i played peter in a simul i gave last week at the athenaeum club in london-interesting draw tho i may have missed an advantageous possibility at one point.

Phony Benoni: <ray keene> Thanks; that does sound much more likely. Good to hear he still has some interest in the game.
Nov-23-06   ChesterTheJester: Lovely guy, used to be my Dad's bridge partner. (If you know the answer!) What level would you say he plays at Mr Keene?

It is said that he was working as 'scientist' for the British Tabaco Industry, denying the danger of passive smoking...

Jack Kerouac: Robert Wade is co-author with O'Connell (I believe) of the excellent book: The games of Robert Fischer. All games played up to The Spassky match.
Really a must for any chess player as many of the more interesting games have commentary or short notes. It may be out of print, but look for it and buy it regardless of what condition it might be in.
Nov-21-07   ChesterTheJester: er... that may well be Peter considering where he used to live and his profession.
