Richard Taylor: <Benzol> Thanks! One day - I don't drink (or very rarely) - but I could shout a coffee or a pot of tea! - I was also first = in the Hamilton Puchen Wang - "B" Grade - actually I did pretty well in the first one - the over 1700 I only lost to a 2000+ player - Gino Thornton and then v Daniel Shen - I was very tired...

I might even take out the Allegro this year but I need to beat Edward Huang and Jim Benson needs to draw or win v Craig Blaxall...

Richard Taylor: <hitman84> Thanks! The general playing strength was not that high but I have improved I think...

The tournaments I have been successful in lately are Rapids - now not too long ago I was hopeless at Rapid but seem somehow to have found form in it! At 60! Beating a lot of young fellows and older players...of course one has a lot of luck as it is easy for opponents to blunder in 25 5 game...

I haven't got to Ivanchuk's level of sacrificing a Q in the Najdorf (preparation of course) - mind you I play that opening (as White I face it and I play it as Black) and I was a playing on FICS and the position nearly arose! I was waiting to sac my Q on e6!! But Black diverged - perhaps he saw the game...!

2 of my games (in the recent Rapid) I put on my forum...

Benzol: <Richard> Did you know there's a Serbo-Croat word that means "far and distant thing", it's Dalek. Your photo here has you looking like that.

Richard Taylor: It was the best view of me in a room facing (more or less) the sun so as all the others look much worse I chose that one! Perhaps I am a Dalek!

Benzol: <Richard> You can be a Dalek if you want to just so long as you don't exterminate anything.

Richard Taylor: LOL! Interesting where the word comes from...

I've been playing over a CD Rom on the Shevesnikov by Shirov (his games) and also the games on Amber - there is a link Stanley gave whereby one can see live analysis and commentary of the games - some very entertaining games on there.

May-23-08   rainbow chessboard: hello richard. edward here. just bit puzzled over wan xi chen and tony booth's game. doesn't black give a mate with the Rook check in the end? how'd it become a draw :S
