wordfunph: congratulatory message by former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos to Joey Antonio when he bagged his 3rd GM norm in 1993..

<"As an avid chess player myself, of which I was once Board 2 player of the West Point Chess Team in New York, I share your jubilation and that of our chess-loving people. I assure you and our nation that my administration will extend all possible support to Philippine sports so that we will not have to wait for another 17 years before another Filipino will earn the title grandmaster.">

last week while browsing the shift rotation of our factory employees, i discovered one named "Rogelio Antonio" assigned on day shift. Ohhh ohhhhh... namesake of GM Joey whewww!

this morning during break while puffing my red marlboro, i chanced to meet this guy named "Rogelio Antonio".

wordfunph: Kapangalan mo pala si Grandmaster Rogelio Antonio kaso merong Jr. siya.

Rogelio Antonio: Sir, meron din pong Jr. ang pangalan ko.

Penguincw: GM Rogelio Antonio (gmjoey1) recently played a 3-minute game against FM Ryan Griffiths (Ryan-Rhys) on chess.com. The time controls I believe were 3 0. The game ended in black resigning.

The Most Active GM In Chess.com History?
FM MikeKlein on 11/4/15, 8:15 AM.

When it comes to titled players on Chess.com, one man has climbed Mt. Everest. GM Rogelio Antonio Jr., 53, better known as "gmjoey1," has now played more than 100,000 games over six years. Chess.com/live is likely his browser's homepage by now! That is surely a record among all grandmasters who frequent the site, and is quite possibly the most games played by any of the 13 million members. His name is so synonymous with live chess that he has his own fan club despite never participating in any "official" Chess.com events like Titled Tuesdays or Death Matches.

One Chess.com blogger explained his popularity plainly: "It's simple, it's because he's online a lot. We can easily get into his game from the top game match. His fans even said, 'Some say he doesn't sleep,' or, 'I never get into live chess without find Joey playing.'

sayang :(

Aug-30-16  gokusano: With updates like this, it is not the remotest that chessfans will think there is an ongoing animosity between NCFP and GM Joey. Mine is that GM Joey resented the seeding procedure. It's just a wild guess and just my opinion. Pero sayang, Joey is really a strong player and could help propel team Philippines to a creditable finish. Saw his post in facebook echoing his sentiment.
Aug-31-16  kamagong24: if pinoy chess players worthy of representing the country are not happy, then, there really is something wrong with people running the NCFP
Aug-31-16  epistle: or with the players...
