Oct-20-05   lopium: He is the player of the day, but we don't know anything about him. Birthday?
Oct-20-05   WMD: I saw him play about ten years ago in London. All I remember are a tasteless shirt and a dodgy moustache. Typically German.

chancho: At least he won two games versus Judit and Susan.
Apr-26-09   myschkin: . . .

This typical German GM was born in
Gliwice* (15 May 1963). During the 1970s his family moved to Dortmund (North Rhine-Westphalia). Gregor Mainka is his twin brother.

Apr-26-09   Prugno: I played a couple of matches as his team-mate a few years ago (on a much lower board, of course), and recall him with great pleasure as an extremely modest and kind person. His opinions, even when I did not agree with them 100%, were always voiced in such a quiet and unassuming way that it was impossible to argue with him.

The only exception I noticed in such a low-key personality, apart from his very interesting and aggressive playing style, was a great interest in motor cars, especially Formula 1.
