Nov-20-08   himadri: on a serious note, almost all indo-europian names ending with -a or -e are feminine except the sanskrit names. they behave erratically.

Open Defence: but Surya is also a girl's name :) kinda like Leslie
Nov-20-08   Udit Narayan: you know the italian footballer andrea pirlo...that is a man =)
Nov-20-08   himadri: <Udit Narayan> thats why I said almost all.

<Open Defence> but that is grammatically incorrect, surya when it means sun is masculine gender. but I know it happens frequently. I have a conjecture that these unisex names are the diminutive forms of the earlier generation names like , lakshmi (when a male ) < lakshmikanta, bhanu ( when female ) <bhanumati, shachi (male name ) < shachindranath. etc ,

Nov-28-08   offramp: I wanted to call my cat after my favourite chess player. But I bought a female cat. So I called her Tolya, which is short for Anatoly but sounds much more feminine.

Dec-19-08   praddy06: Vishwanathan Anand today predicted that Bengal boy Surya Shekhar Ganguli had “all the potential to emerge as a world champion”.

Anand described Surya Shekhar as “young and full of new ideas”. Asked how he rated the player, Anand said: “He has all the ingredients to make it big.”

Jan-08-09   praddy06: India's strongest Chess Tournament "Parsvnath Open" will start from this coming sunday

India's Ganguly and Negi will be there.....Anand has not played in a tournament in India for more than a decade. http://www.indopia.in/India-usa-uk-...

Jan-08-09   bharatiy: I think Ganguly now should stop playing National A, can do much better otherwise.

Jan-20-09   bharatiy: Good for him, he earned some cash!! Hope he can play in more international events, though this one was good event.
Feb-08-09   Udit Narayan: after dibyendu barua, this guy is 2nd bengali grandmaster...and must have been great feeling working with compatriot vishy anand!!!
May-20-09   dramas79: < "dibyendu barua, this guy is 2nd bengali grandmaster" > Are you sure? Neelotpal Das sounds Bengali and I think he was a GM before. Sandipan Chanda is the next from Bengal and actually, i will not be surprised if he overtakes Ganguly. Both play attacking chess and i feel get nervous in big games.

These days Delhi seems to have talent like Negi, Tanya Sachdev, Sahaj Grover.
