Nguyen gained her WCM title at the 5th ASEAN Age Group Tournament in 2004 and her WFM title when she won the Asian U12 Girls Championship in 2005. She won her three WIM norms in the latter half of 2009 at the Intchess 9 Vision Masters in Singapore and at the First Saturday IM tournaments in Budapest in September and October.
