Aug-13-04   HailM0rphy: omg acirce you are so boring
Aug-13-04   Panzar: If you check some of his games I believe you'll find that he's anything but a boring player.

He is in fact a wild attacking player, at least he has been in the games I have seen.

I think he deserves as much as anyone else to be a player of the day.

tpstar: <HailM0rphy> How about Jason R Doss instead? Or maybe his mother?!
Aug-13-04   Everett: How about actually honoring the player of the day and check out his games?
Aug-13-04   HailM0rphy: panzareveret> <he's anything but a boring player> I'll say it again. Yes he is. Wake up and watch a Tal game.

<ow about actually honoring the player of the day and check out his games?> If you translated his games into a movie title, it might go somthing like "Attack of the BoreMongers 2004" Of course it'd have to be rated G because anyone over the age of 5 that watches it might stop breathing from boredom

acirce: "The Tiger" likens chess to pinball: http://www.thisisguernsey.com/code/...
May-10-05   soberknight: Is he a Tiger or a Persson?
Dec-07-05   Brown: <HailMOrphy> It is a shame you know so little about this player or his games. Why the ignorance, and your insistence in flauting it?
Dec-07-05   Brown: Tiger has brought his own system to chess, a variation on the modern featuring g6, Bg7, d6, Nd7, a6 with potential b,c and e pawn pushes.

babakova: For a swedish player, Tiger has done pretty well. But I prefer looking at games by elite players rather than a player who has never broken the 2600 barrier.
Feb-04-06   Everett: <babakova> We all have our preferences. Have fun with your 2600+. Bye bye!

waddayaplay: Tiger is now also a reputed writer, with his Tiger's Modern (2005) -- a variant of the Modern Defence (...d6, ...g6, ...Bg7), with ...a6 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/91...
Jul-02-06   alicefujimori: Tiger: "I train according to the 'crab method'."

midknightblue: I started reviewing his book over the past couple days. It seems very good so far.
Apr-19-07   Magician of Riga: <babakova> and <HailM0rphy> your statements just scream ignorance. Even you must admit that a supposedly lowly IM is a better player than you are. GMs don't shun looking over IM games which can often be of fairly high quality and out of which come many theoretical novelties. If an IM game is worth looking over to a grandmaster then the games of a sub-2600 GM(who has claimed the "heads" of many 2600+ GMs) are worth studying for the average mediocre chess player.

babakova: I don't see what is so ignorant about stating my preferences...And of course Tiger is vastly stronger than me, but what does that have to do with my post? It is not as if I claimed otherwise.

bebop1: There is an article about a game between Tiger and Ivan Sokolov on Chessbase, http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... , which unfortunately isn't in CG.coms database. It seems interesting though.

sitzkrieg: Aagaard discusses the same game in detail in "Excelling at chess calculation" or something like that. Strange if its really not in the database.

Manic: Ok I went to the lecture and saved it and I uploaded the game to the database. Hopefully Chessgames will add it soon. I also have the annotations from the lecture, which were written by Dennis, Jacob Aagaard (not 100% sure, but an Aagaard) and Tiger Hillarp-Persson, so if you need clarification on any lines post on this page or at the game page when it is uploaded.

Manic: Okay I forgot to read the post above mine so it looks like it is definitely Jacob Aagaard. Also, it is interesting to note that with 6...h5 Persson deviates from a previous game where he played 6...h6 and in the end lost against A Olssonm (the game isn't in the database).
Apr-20-07   FHBradley: <Tiger Hillarp Persson (born Oct-28-1970) Sweden Grandmaster from Malmo, Sweden.> That's the nices bio I've ever read. Clear, concise, succinct, to the point and gives you all the essential information.

bebop1: <Manic> That's very nice of you, thanks!
Aug-02-07   Klas Recke: Although Tiger is a great player he has never had a 2667 rating as the info says. His highest is his current rating of 2568 I believe.

fromoort: <FHBradley>Actually, it is redundant. It should read: <Tiger Hillarp Persson (born Oct-28-1970). Grandmaster from Malmo, Sweden.>
