Feb-03-09   Deus Ex Alekhina: There was some guess-work about how old the good doctor is. I see a back issue of Michigan Chess, June 1983, has a photo of a young "Tony Palmer" & his age is given.

HeMateMe: Do doctors or nurses ever talk about that 'House' guy? Is that kind of show of any interest? I assume they have medical consults who write the scripts, make things realistic. I think he's a bag of hot air, but might there be things on that show of interest to the medical community?
Oct-16-09   wolfmaster: Ok then, Dr. Palmer. :)
Oct-16-09   wolfmaster: I also am curious, Tony, if your profession permits you to travel for long tournaments when you like to, or do they not understand a chess player's life? :)

tpstar: <HeMateMe> I have only seen the commercials and never watched the show. I completely disagree with any premise where a big jerk is such a great doctor; to me those are mutually exclusive. If he does have chronic pain or drug dependence, that is still no excuse for acting out against patients or staff or colleagues or anyone. The show "E.R." had medical consultants to keep things more realistic, yet they faced professional criticism over their unusually high rates of successful Codes compared to an actual hospital. I only watched that show once, when Dr. Clooney rescued the two boys from the river, and forget that. I enjoy "Nip/Tuck" just because it is so incredibly stupid.

<wolfmaster> I am a lifelong chess amateur and wouldn't even qualify for any important tournaments. But I still love chess and use this site to improve, and to help my students improve.

<slomarko> I suspect elite GMs often visit this site (especially their page) and must restrain themselves from kibitzing as well; remember when Magnus Carlsen called out a certain kibitzer by name. =) I also think specific quotes from this summer will be relevant and topical in a few years.
